National Organising Committee announced for FIFA Women's World Cup Canada 2015

The Canadian Soccer Association is pleased to have announced the National Organising Committee for the FIFA Women's World Cup Canada 2015. The committee features Victor Montagliani (chair), Steven Reed, Janine Helland, Doug Redmond, Walter Sieber and Peter Montopoli.

The FIFA Women's World Cup Canada 2015 is the largest single-sport women's event in the world. The upcoming edition will not only expand the tournament from 16 to 24 teams from around the world, but also marks the first time that a single-sport event has been hosted from coast to coast in Canada. The FIFA Women's World Cup Canada 2015 official Host Cities are Vancouver, Edmonton, Winnipeg, Ottawa, Montréal and Moncton.

"The FIFA Women's World Cup Canada 2015 will provide terrific exposure for the game in our country and highlight the best of Canada to the rest of the world," said Mr. Montagliani. "It will be an opportunity for the world's biggest game and best players to be showcased from coast to coast across our country."

The National Organising Committee will be responsible for approving policy and providing direction, providing financial oversight, developing policies, and ensuring that the promotional and legacy opportunities are capitalized to further develop women's soccer.

Mr. Montagliani is the President of the Canadian Soccer Association while Mr. Reed is Vice-President, both of whom were elected to their positions this year. Mr. Montagliani was also a committee member for the FIFA U-20 World Cup Canada 2007. Ms. Helland has served on the Committee for Women's Football and the FIFA Women's World Cup committee. She was also Canada's captain at the FIFA Women's World Cup USA 1999.

Mr. Redmond has long been involved in soccer in Newfoundland Soccer and has served as President of the NLSA. Mr. Sieber is a renowned expert in the organisation of sporting events and has been involved in international events including the Montréal 1976 Olympics, the FIFA U-20 World Cup Canada 2007, and the Vancouver 2010 Olympics.

Mr. Montopoli serves as the General Secretary of the Canadian Soccer Association and previously served as the National Event Director for the FIFA U-20 World Cup Canada 2007. He has also worked at two FIFA World Cups, serving as Assistant General Coordinator at Germany 2006 and as General Coordinator at South Africa 2010.

Also announced Thursday 6 December 2012, the following senior management have been appointed for the FIFA Women's World Cup Canada 2015: Peter Montopoli as Chief Executive Officer; Sandra Gage as Chief Marketing and Communications Officer; Joe Guest as Chief Competitions Officer; Don Hardman as Chief Stadia Officer; and Sean Heffernan as Chief Financial Officer.

"We have assembled a very strong team for the best sporting event in women's soccer," said Canadian Soccer Association General Secretary Peter Montopoli. "It is an event that will mark a lasting legacy for sport in Canada and inspire a generation of young soccer players in our country and around the world."

Ms. Gage has served as the Director, Business Development for the Canadian Soccer Association and has extensive experience at international events including FIFA World Cup Qualifiers in Canada and the 2001 World Figure Skating Championships. Mr. Guest has served as the Deputy General Secretary of the Canadian Soccer Association and served as Tournament Director for the 2012 CONCACAF Women's Olympic Qualifying tournament. Mr. Hardman served as a Host City General Manager for the FIFA U-20 World Cup Canada 2007 and was involved in stadia projects including the design and construction of FedEx Forum in Memphis (NBA Grizzlies). Mr. Heffernan serves as the Chief Financial Officer for the Canadian Soccer Association and previously served as the Chief Financial Officer for the FIFA U-20 World Cup Canada 2007.

Mr. Montopoli will serve in the role of Chief Executive Officer for the FIFA Women's World Cup Canada 2015, but will also continue to serve as General Secretary for the Canadian Soccer Association.

Next week on Friday 14 December, the Official Emblem for the FIFA Women's World Cup Canada 2015 will be launched at a media event in Vancouver. On the same day, Host City Composite Emblems will be launched in corresponding sites across the country.

The others are there not for what they demonstrated in terms of competence running events, Walter will work with FIFA at a significant per diem ..... not sure what the daily rate for the others will be likely 1000 per day charged to the tournament.

I would have thought the guys over at CSN would have been asking about the lack of arms length between the CSA board and staff with some of those same individuals running the 2015 FIFA WWC. The questions the media and soccer press should be asking are obvious aren't they?
