Raheem Taylor-Parkes (U17)

The U.S. youth international is obviously thrilled with the prospect and the feedback he received from the club’s coaches.

“The technical staff said they liked my technical ability, speed, and aptitude to learn from the coaches,” Taylor-Parkes said. “Arsenal and Pro-Goals Sports are trying to work out a deal to keep me there on a permanent basis.”

Given the tricky nature of underage players joining international clubs, there are a few hurdles in the way for Taylor-Parkes, but PGS is well-versed in such areas and believes there is an opportunity for the youngster to join the English club.

“There are realistic avenues being explored that could allow Raheem to stay in the UK on a permanent basis, and thus play with Arsenal,” a spokesperson from PGS said. “Although it will be a challenge, PGS is confident that we can make Raheem's permanent move to England a reality.”

Raheem’s mother, Jennifer Taylor, told TopDrawerSoccer.com that she is open to relocating if her son was invited to join Arsenal’s youth academy.

“Since he was very young, he has wanted to be a soccer player,” Taylor told TopDrawerSoccer.com. “He gets in trouble at school for looking up soccer news and videos all day.”

Taylor is originally a track and field athlete from Jamaica. Raheem’s father is from the U.S. Neither played soccer growing up.

Raheem was born in Canada, but moved to Tampa by age 10.

Taylor also revealed that PGS is meeting with the family on Wednesday to discuss the next step for the young star.

Dream scenario for us. Gets him into the top facilities in Canada. Well done on TFC (and the CSA I'm guessing?) to bring this kid home, perfect. This rules him out of the US U17 team for 2015 if he stays, which is HUGE.

When people were discussing him in the U15 thread i actually wondered about this scenario. He was with VSI West Florida Flames which is a youth affiliate of USL Pro side VSI Tampa Bay FC, so not the worst environment, but not the best either. I guess it was either TFC or switch to a USSDA club and he chose TFC. Having a guy like Rongen - who is well known in US youth circles - running the academy probably didn't hurt...

edit: Does he still have family here?

Think this bodes well for our chances to keep him.

I've always thought that for the guys chasing money and fame USMNT isn't necessarily the slam dunk decision. We have a platform here in Canada where we have fans now, just not a real quality team to support or a star player. Whoever shows up one day an ends up being "the guy" that coincides with a rise in our program is going to be a hot commodity.

Maybe it will give some of the talented guys with options and no definitive routes in either country reason to look north when making their decision.

I saw from his tweets that he's training with TFC Academy until July 8th so this may have been more of an extended workout rather than a permanent move to TFC Academy. They will want to get him enough training sessions to qualify him as a HGP if he ends up going to college.

The fact that a top 50 US youth player may play for Canada instead of the US really does bode well for us though.

Um... he wants to play UAE World Cup. Simple like that. U.S. out. Canada in.

He has played for the u16 team last the last two weeks. It would be nice if he sticks around.
