Well the English anyway...

On the back of what was a realativley sucessful tournament on the field and an excellent one off it, interms of Spectator numbers, the FA has launched a new Five year plan.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/20068540

highlights for this are...

•The creation of an Elite Performance Unit and the appointment of a head of elite development to develop the best young players.

•Delivering a new commercial strategy for women's football to include more broadcast coverage to elevate the profile of the women's game.

•Expanding the FA Women's Super League by introducing a second division in 2014 to enable promotion and relegation.

•Grow participation and fanbase.

Obviously not the College University approach that is favoured on this side of the Atlantic, but shows that the FA are now looking to be more proactive in their dealing with the womens game, rather than the rather dismissive attitude that existed since the 1930's.

Most of us know the current elite league is lightly supported at the moment but with the will and the funds to back it.

What probably helps is the league structure is based on the Mens club format, making it easier to sell to the public over there.

Given time, the English WNT may not be the pushovers they once were.

The England FA have an extremely bright and proactive women's committee and as a result the game is very well planned and executed. Their output over the past five years in terms of developing the women's game is absolutely amazing. As a result, where we can put 6-7 players on the field who are capable of being productive at the top 10 international level, England can now put out more and soon that will be 11.

The horrible terrible part for female soccer players in England when it comes to the game on a global level is they're as misogynistic as the Middle East. Women's soccer in Canada may be financially impoverished but when it comes to respecting women in it we're swimming in wealth.

Well, not quite as bad as the middle east. But I understand your point.

A major issue in the UK with regards womens sports, in general and Soccer in perticular, has been a perception that "nice girls do do that sort of thing" or "Only lesbians play soccer".

The male Brit did little to encourage the opposite sex as far as soccer was concered and womens rugby was seen as tantamont to Mud wrestling, but girls themselves were very recitent to get involved in sport post elementary level.

During my time at school (30 years ago) girls over 12/13 years of age just did not want to know and the very notion of "Queen Victoria of the Velodrome" was mere Science fiction!

All that been a said. Lingerie football League!? Seriously!?

That's a better description than mine.

"Queen Victoria of the Velodrome" was mere Science fiction!"

Love that. Yes it's all just evolution. It's only a matter of time until they cycle back to the days of the Dick Kerr Ladies.

For those unsure about Vic's reference

to the Dick Kerr Ladies.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dick,_Kerr's_Ladies_F.C.#FA_ban

the telling part been...

"The popularity of the team led The Football Association to ban women's football at its members grounds on 5 December 1921. Ostensibly this was due of concerns that women were not physically able to play football, but there was a belief that the popularity of the team made some in the men's game feel threatened."

Personally Girls in Helmets, Pads and Victoria's Secrets' make me nerveous...
