Atiba Hutchinson rejects new contract offer from PSV.

He apparently wants to leave the club on a free transfer this summer.

I'm not sure what he's thinking but it would be extremely hard for him to be a regular for a higher profile team than PSV. He can already consider himself lucky to be starting at right back for PSV. Maybe he want to grab some easy money in Russia or the desert...who knows.

Interesting...

I would love to have him replace Torsten Frings at TFC next season. That would be DP money a bit more well spent (I love Frings but he is getting on in years). However, Atiba or any other quality player will probably not want to come to TFC most likely because Paul Mariner and alot of the organization are well, how can I put this delicately? ....idiots who are dangerously underqualified to run a successful team in the CSL let alone MLS.

No way... Atiba stay in Europe

Echo that.

If he's telling PSV he's headed for the door its not because he doesn't already have something in the works. Or maybe its plural, somethings.

Not saying any one of those somethings are definitive, just saying he must be hearing enough that interests him from parties elsewhere. Interests him more than playing out of position in top flight Holland anyway.

Really, its not as though Hutch has taken a bad step in his career thus far and I don't think he ever changed clubs on speculation either. Seems to me he always had something lined up before jumping ship.

^agreed.Totally disagree with the JDG analogy. This isn't Attiba getting black-listed out of the country for suing his team. This is a top class player deciding to leave on his own terms. I also disagree that he couldn't take a crack at a starting position in a higher level league. Does anyone here think he's not upper mid-table La Liga or Bundasliga quality? Also, perhaps he also have some personal reasons that we're not aware of for wanting a change of scenery.

Unless PSV is running a charity and not a professional football club, I assume the fact that Hutchinson has appeared in every minute of every league game is based on merit and ability.

Perhaps PSV should consider themselves lucky Atiba is on their roster?

^Agree. PSV is a big club by dutch standards, but this is not Madrid we are talking about here.

The fact that he plays at RB for them instead of comming off the bench to play in his natural position tells you how valuable he is to PSV. Let us not forget that before he moved to Holland he was the player of the year of the Danish league at the top club in Scandanavia. Of course it is not as strong as the Eredivise, but that is not an insignificant accomplishment.

If we are speculating, my guess is that he is targeting a move to a mid to low table EPL club. He has mentioned before his dream is to play in England (I can't remember what interview that was). Perhaps Fulham would be a destination, they have a dutch manager who may follow PSV closer than most.

I'm thinking this too. The money is ridiculous in England, so even if it is a money grab he'll get way more from an English club than a big Russian club (let's face it, Zenit or Dynamo aren't going to be giving a relative no-namer like Atiba $10M like they would a guy like Hulk).

I hope he moves to England. If Hutch can get into the midfield of a Premier League club that's not in danger of relegation he'll be doing a far sight better than all the other Canucks in England right now. :P

Man, I would love to see Atiba with Man U. I know it won't happen, but I would buy that jersey in a heartbeat.

I doubt he would be going to Russia since he turned down an offer from Saturn previously though I suppose if one of the big Russian clubs made a bid it might be different. I wouldn't discount a big Russian club being interested in him because despite the oligarch's interest in big name players, the Russian clubs are also very good at scouting and signing good players who are not big names. However, Atiba also turned down Trabzonspor some years ago so my impression is that he wants to stay in the western European leagues. My money would be on a mid table Bundesliga club.

Where ever he ends up I hope he cashes in big time. He deserves it and is worth it. Come to think of it the Caps have a pair of aging and under performing scots who might be leaving after the season ..... We will need a play making midfielder ... Just saying the Caps have done a lot worse with their DP picks.

If he has come out saying that it is because he's received an offer.

And part of the offer is a generous salary on the condition that he goes on a free transfer.

If he wanted to help PSV, though, he'd let them sell him, but he would not help himself. And most likely he has told them what he wants, they have said they can't pay it, and so they'll part on good conditions.

PSV and really all Dutch teams realize they are major feeders for teams in the big four and can't compete with them, the best they can do in fact is take players from them on their way down and develop youth. You do not create a salary structure you cannot maintain, when a player wants or can get significantly more they are allowed to leave.

How much do you think Atiba makes at PSV? I'd say it is no more than half a million euros. A Championship salary in England.

By rule as a non-EU over the age of 21 he's making a min. of 425K Euros (I think that's the approx. amount). So that's a starting point for speculation...

I think Atiba could cut it at a mid table side in any of the major leagues. Italy, England, Germany, Spain. Only problem is his age, but he could probably get a 2 year contract for more money in all of those leagues, and I'm sure it helps that he can play multiple positions and has always been very professional. And if I were him I would do it, get a decent contract and a chance to play on a big stage, after 2 years he can extend or come to MLS and make DP money. I think he maximizes money and ambition and when hes done he can come home to MLS and be the face of Canadian soccer.
