argh1
In an article in this AM's Times & Transcript it is reported that 4 fields will have artificial turf installed for the 2015 event. 3 are practice fields for the event plus the stadium. 2 are high school fields and the Black Tide RFC have been pushing for artificial turf for a while on Bernice MacNaughton HS field and Rocky Stone is already turf just not FIFA approved FIFA has requested this to provide a consistant playing surface across all venues in Canada. Moncton has approached FIFA to see if there is a temporary artificial field that can be used as it wants to keep Stade Moncton Stadium grass for upcoming track and field events. The city estimates it will cost about a million and a half dollars to install the turf
argh1
Would this be the 1st FIFA WC played entirely on plastic pitch? So van Greenland finally join FIFA as they have been denied because grass doesn't grow in Greenland?

Tuscan
They aren't going to request all match pitches to be artificial, are they? Not sure I want Canada to be associated with "Land of the Plastic Pitch", unless FIFA is fully on board and it helps a bid for WC2026 lol.

sloth8
Here is the text from the article: VIKTOR PIVOVAROV/TIMES & TRANSCRIPT Government-Municipal City soccer fields turning to turf by brent mazerolle times & transcript staff 22 Oct 2012 08:00AM Moncton city council has approved a number of upgrades to city sports fields to accommodate Moncton’s hosting of part of the 2015 Women’s World Cup, and the work will mean two local high schools are also getting new fields. The City of Moncton will partner with Harrison Trimble High School and Bernice MacNaughton High School to upgrade their fields, as well as install artificial turf at the city-owned Rocky Stone Field. Further, it will either convert the grass field at the Stade Moncton 2010 Stadium to artificial turf or install a temporary artificial field, so that all the FIFA matches in all six Canadian cities sharing hosting duties are consistent. As well, each of the four teams which will compete in Moncton must have an artificial turf practice field. The stadium work is subject to the city coming to a satisfactory arrangement with the international soccer body. Moncton’s share of the upgrade to the two high school fields and Rocky Stone is expected to be about $1.5 million.
Olympique_de_Marseille
it will either convert the grass field at the Stade Moncton 2010 Stadium to artificial turf Well I'll be damned! So that means Ottawa is a lock as well for getting artificial turf. I really hope that the Montréal venue will be the big O so that Saputo will stay a grass surface. We shouldn't have more than one stadium switching over for this (especially an MLS one). We should also probably renew the calls to get the canMNT to play a friendly in Moncton before they switch to artificial.

Olympique_de_Marseille
There is NO CHANCE that Joey Saputo will put plastic at Saputo. That's good then. Sounds like it should be the Stade olympique de Montréal. This means that Vancouver-Edmonton-Montréal will undoubtedly be the three cities to get the two semis and the final. Also for reasons of home support and fans it is likely that the canWNT will play at 2/3 of those venues, likely all 3 if they go beyond the group stage. alberta white
Just goes to show what an Artificial Competition FIFA World Cup Events have become. Personally I'll put it down to creating technical leaverage for 2026. If they Can't maintain the grass in Qatar then they be able to providing artifical surfaces , quoting 2015 a backup. Yes the tin foil hat's back on boys!.... Well, actually I'm now using an alloy derivative.
