Yohan
http://www.mlssoccer.com/news/article/2012/10/18/throw-mls-nasl-closer-working-partnership MLS teams either working with NASL team as an affiliate, or placing own teams in NASL as feeder/loan league? Of course, there is nothing that says Canadian MLS teams has to put an NASL team in Canada...
Joe Keeper
Hmmm, Interesting development... This could be great news. Overall, I am still in favour of the CSA putting together a strong Canada only D2 (or D3) league that focuses primarily on developing Canadian talent. However, this proposal could also work if that does not happen. I could see it working because this way we could encourage clubs to form in Calgary, Victoria, Winnipeg, Hamilton, and Quebec city (and hopefully even more cities) plus Ottawa and Edmonton and play one another regularly as well as the USA based teams. If we through MLS reserve teams in to the mix and not just making existing NASL and USL Pro clubs into reserve teams, this could really work. This solution would work because the Canadian teams in such a league would still get to play teams from the big three Canadian MLS cities, even if they are reserves. This way Vancouver and Victoria can have a rivalry with one another at the D2 level as well as Portland and Seattle; Calgary and Edmonton could still play Vancouver; Ottawa and Hamilton can still have a rivalry with Toronto at the D2 level etc... The only problem with this is that by having the NASL and USLPro comprised of its own clubs plus all of the MLS reserve clubs, the two minor leagues would balloon in number of teams. How would we get to decide who's MLS reserve team would play in either of the two leagues. The only solution to this problem would be for the NASL and Usl Pro leagues to embrace promotion and relegation between the two of them. This way all MLS reserve teams could have their place in one structure. This might even encourage some cohesion between the top three leagues in Canada/USA. Let the PDL, CSL and any other leagues in Canada and the USA stand alone.
lazlo_80
Does the NASL still have the 25% rule? No more than 25% of teams can play in Canada?
xcalibre
If we can get some kind of nation-wide league, it would be a good cross-promotion if the winner entered into the next Voyageurs Cup, or at least an early round with the NASL teams (Edmonton, soon Ottawa and maybe Hamilton and Calgary in the future). If nobody could agree on who plays in the 2nd tier league, maybe we could get the winners of regional leagues across the country, and then at the end of the season have them play off against the new winner of their old division to retain their place. madmonte
I would certainly support a team in Calgary full heartedly.
munseahawk
Does the NASL still have the 25% rule? No more than 25% of teams can play in Canada? That's not a NASL policy. It is a USSF rule in terms of sanctioning the league, so I'd say it's still a factor.

USSF sanctioning standards aren't rigidly applied. They can and do issue waivers on issues like that.
moura1
IMO NASL is the best option that we have. I would like to see the NASL and USL pro merge into one league with an East and West Divisions (to keep costs down). It could have 10 teams in each Division and allow 5 Canadian teams into the League (because of the 25% quota). Having 8 Pro Canadian teams is a good next step. IMO a Canadian league would not fly. For some reason more people would come out to watch if theres an American team involved.
Bully
I know a man here, the director of the U-18 Foothills, is lobbying to get NASL to cowtown.
David C.
IMO NASL is the best option that we have... That's my thought as well. Best thing we need right now, is to have more NASL teams (run with a Canadian heavy roster like FC Edmonton), to offer more pro opportunities to our your young players -- and to have a better "transfer" (for lack of a better word) environment with MLS. Probably the biggest thing we need is to bridge the gap between our large youth player pool and the dwindling pro options we end up with in their prime years (say 25 to 30 years old). NASL would help with that.
Stuart
I know a man here, the director of the U-18 Foothills, is lobbying to get NASL to cowtown. Please tell us more!! Is it Tommy W.? ted
I would like to see the NASL and USL pro merge into one league... Why would you want to destroy the 3rd division to make up numbers in the 2nd? We need all three levels of football as they provide different environments for players at different stages of their career. Expanding the NASL is great but expanding/reorganizing/replacing USL Pro should also be a priority. We need three levels of "pro" teams IMO.
