El Hombre
Based on the travel thread, these were the users that were going down: Lennon Mc79hockey Umpiredice Redpunkfiddle Lennon and Redpunkfiddle have both logged in since the game, but mc79hockey and umpiredice have not. The email addresses associated with the user names don't reveal anything. If umpiredice's entered birthdate is correct, then he is older than 34. That's all my detective work can tell me at this point.
VWFC
I'd like to hear what that guy from Honduras, who was pissed off about the game preview 'unnecessarily' mentioning how dangerous Honduras is, has to say about this article?
Esco0428
Roatan is an island north of mainland Honduras - which is a very popular tourist destination. Some cruise ships make stops there as part of their cruise itinerary. Likewise, I believe it is an all-inclusive tourist destination - a la Cuba, Dominican, and Mexico. In that article, it seems like the source of if this man was at the stadium was his status on facebook. According to that facebook status, it does not guarantee that he was actually at the stadium for the game or in San Pedro Sula for that matter. He could of easily been watching the game at a bar, hotel room, etc in Roatan the whole time.. Would really be interested to hear from the other Voyageurs if they met this man there to confirm that he was there for the game. He could of easily just been in the country on vacation, which was ironically at the same time that Canada was playing Honduras. Anyhow, still a tragedy that a man lost his life. RIP Tim. mc79hockey
There were five of us down there - I came closest to fitting that description, as was pointed out by some friends of mine. The "taxi after dark" rule seems, unfortunately, to have been a good one.
Esco0428
According to that article, he suggested we stick to hockey, so I don't think he's a V Exactly, I don't even think he was ever in San Pedro Sula... unless we have some confirmation somewhere that he did in fact attend. Duane Rollins put a quick piece on CSN, saying that he did attend. But just want confirmation of a source, as from what I have read thus (including Honduran reports), this was a random robbery, and seems like it had nothing to do with soccer - or the fact that he travelled for the soccer game. Either way, very tragic.

He was in Roatan, I doubt he was over the for game, he was with two local girls leaving a bar with another Canadain in Coxans Hole.... you have to be carefull in tourist areas, when folks ask you for your cell phone...hand it over. Better yet do not have on you when you go out. Today the police have arrested one of the guys implicated in the shooting the other is presumed to be running to La Ceiba so off the Island back onto the Mainland, as he was as desribed in SPS newspapers a policeman, its pretty sure the local forces will round up the guys envolved fairly quickly. TOcanadafan
I felt very safe when I traveled to Roatan a few years ago. I have friends who go every year. There are two main "tourist" areas on the island - as with other Caribbean destinations, if you stay in these areas after dark you're fine. I was specifically told not to go into Coxen Hole after dark (a main residential / shanty-town area for the locals). I'm sure this had nothing to do with soccer.
