DaveBrett
I watched the whole game, and it looked like some of the Canadian players weren't trying to win. There needs to be a match fixing probe here. Has there ever been a match fixing probe in Canadian soccer? Who would conduct such a probe? That's a serious question. scullion44
I wouldn't be surprised if someone paid off Rickets thats for sure.
Oranje
I wouldn't be surprised if someone paid off Rickets thats for sure. No I chalk that up to not being in any match form. His last competitive match not in a Canada jersey was April 24th.

Canada1
Or were they threatened??
rob.notenboom
Or were they threatened?? This would not surprise me. Or they simply could have felt threatened and been to psychologically fragile to deal with it.
Sir Alphonso Applegate
It would be unacceptable if any of these players took bribes. I could have a little easier time understanding threats or fear of violence or something, but if it ever came to light than any of our boys 'threw' this game for coin, then strip them of their citizenship and let them live in Honduras. dyslexic nam
I think we just plain sucked, but you have to admit that this kind of anamoly is the type of result that would raise eyebrows in other regions. But no, we weren't bribed. We were just incompetent.
narduch
They weren't bribed. You don't fix a game and proceed to have an 8-1 score line. It would have been 1-0 or something like that.
DaveBrett
Andrew Hainault only makes $150K playing for the Houston Dynamo. If someone offered him 500K to throw the match, would he turn it down?
Gordon
We crapped the bed. Deal with it. Because this sort of speculation is as embarassing as the loss itself.

But no, we weren't bribed. We were just incompetent. I'll go with drugged because it makes me feel better about our performance although your take is probably a whole lot more accurate. During the 7-1 beating that our hockey team took from the Russians years ago my friends and I just kept looking at each other and asking "who spiked the water with ludes?" and "did the team doctors mix up the uppers and downers?". The same thoughts kept coming into my head yesterday. It was that bad.
AvroArrow
Did we get bribed? Highly unlikely. The sad thing is that if you had told me at 3pm yesterday that we were going to lose 8-1, I would have laughed and asked you how much the Canadian players got paid for that scoreline.....
