Obinna
The CSA needs to give this team a game on EVERY FIFA date from here on in. They are not in a position right now to use money as an excuse (after what they have allowed to happen). Raise registration across the country by 10 bucks if you have to. That give an extra 6-10 million. If parents complain too bad you can't please everyone. I don't want to hear an excuse about availability of teams or players. Bring in youth players and play teams like Puerto Rico if teams are hard to come by. No more European friendlies. Teams from South America, Central America, and the Carribean only. I will accept African teams if we are really stuck.

madmonte
+1 to Obinna again in a different thread. Now that we have corporate sponsonship, there is really no excuse to miss friendly dates. If there was one thing heartening to take away from the Honduras game, it was the Bell logos on the warmups.
theaub
We should certainly be travelling to one of Guatemala or El Salvador next year, if not both. One other aspect is that we should have the potential to get some decent friendlies pre-WC 2014. Not at the '94 WC level but being in the same hemisphere should help us get one decent home match, especially against a team that has the US in their group. That should give us the ability to play some other, less exciting teams and still have the CSA make some money.
Keegan
I agree that we need more friendlies but no more European teams? What purpose would that serve exactly? We didn't miss out on the hex because we played Cyprus, Poland, Ukraine, Macedonia, Belarus and Armenia... and many of our players are based in Europe so it makes sense for us financially. If anyone thinks that taking our team to Panama and Honduras for FRIENDLIES is going to make a noticeable difference you're dead wrong. There is no real comparison to actual qualifiers.. the only real benefit would be playing on a pitch that you MAY play on one day... so basically you're spending extra $$$ with flights, accommodations etc. so you can experience a bumpy pitch... not great prep or spending IMO. Our team goes to Florida to adjust to the climate and I think that is a pretty good alternative that makes more sense for our program. If Honduras lost in Canada do you think their fans would be calling for more friendlies in the USA and Canada? Please. The CSA is a complete joke. Hart should have been fired or resigned by now and we should have a friendly booked for next month.

Friendlies need to be scheduled honestly dont care vs. who but would prefer better CONCACAF opponents...I liked Sid Siexero's comments about capping as many players as possible...play friendlies and play all young guys and cap tie them....did I hear him correctly that JH was called up at one point but never got off the bench therefore wasn't cap tied? mrstepp817
Ok, he made it seem like JH was called up but never played....I wasn't aware that even in a friendly a player couldn't be cap tied...Gold Cup would cap tie guys though right? theaub
Yup continental competitions or WCQ's. Begovic is the one who was on the bench for a WCQ and wasn't brought in but back then he was already cap-tied to us

theaub
And when he stood in 114 for the Panama match and couldn't follow along despite screaming his loudest because he was hammered. I did enjoy his constant attempts to start the douchebag chant after goal kicks Also I ended up sitting beside him at Shoeless Joe's after the Cuba game and had a decent conversation with him. I may have disagreed with some of his viewpoints but I do think he's passionate about the Canadian program (I did have to take a couple chirps at Ronaldo after that loss to Russia though). BuzzAndSting
I did enjoy his constant attempts to start the douchebag chant after goal kicks Hahaha Credit where credit is do. It was his constant yelling and pointing at the capo that drove me nuts. He kept leaning over onto his friend and I thought he was going to topple over a few rows. Jcm144
Lol Sid Seixero is a funny guy, but I'll say that he would cheer Canada over Portugal......but anyways, Canada needs to start scheduling friendlies with CONCACAF teams on the road. It has been showed in this round of qualifying, that the players' mindsets are too weak to go into hostile situations on the road. You have to look at teams who have just been recently been eliminated, I would suggest any of these. This is one of the many ways CSA has to step up. If anyone thinks that taking our team to Panama and Honduras for FRIENDLIES is going to make a noticeable difference you're dead wrong. I agree with your last point, in that the experience is nothing like the real thing. But I think we don't really have a lot of countries lining up to play us, so we can't be choosy. Friendlies help to gel the squad, and the more the better. I also think that HOME friendlies serve to grow the fan base, which is of utmost importance if we are to attract corporate $$$ which we desperately need to improve our overall program and pay out a competent coach. The couple of friendlies at BMO field leading up to this WCQ cycle attracted a whole new group of fans who then came out to the games that mattered. jpg75
It's one thing to want to play an away friendly against a CONCACAF team, but we need to get them to agree to it. Home team usually picks up the travel tab or pays an appearance fee, something i doubt most of their FA's would be interested in when they can just book one of their neighbours for next to nothing. We'd have to cover our own costs if we wanted to do that and the CSA doesn't have the cash to do that every FIFA date.
Greatest Cockney Rip Off
+1 Can't really take Sid seriously with his smug ego and the fact that he said he would support Portugal over Canada. That guy is totally classless. When pressed by Bob MCown on the Fan just after the Panama match, Sid said if Canada played Portugal he would cheer for Canada but if you go back to old Footy Show podcasts he says the exact opposite. That he would cheer for Portugal over Canada. The guy is scum.

That's the thing about being a Canada supporter, I have a ton of respect for anyone I meet because I know they're a character 99.9% of the time. It takes balls and loyalty to cheer for Canada in Soccer.
DerHoota
I think if were going to have more friendlies, they need to be on every date possible and we need to start playing some more matches at home. But please, somewhere else other then Toronto. Friendlies are a good chance to get the team playing Montreal, Vancouver and Edmonton.
