sting
This is probably the end for him and I just wish we had more players with his heart. He was running hard all the way to end. He went out with class. Great effort.
Lord Bob
"The end"? He's 28; 31 at the beginning of next cycle. He was among Canada's better players on the field every time he got an appearance. I agree with the sentiment but it's way too early to start bidding him adieu. Nesij
Agreed! Respect! Especially when your are 6-0 dont and counting... it takes character to continue the fight!
Esco0428
Agreed! Respect! Especially when your are 6-0 dont and counting... it takes character to continue the fight! In addition to Iain, quick shout out to Cavallini who came out running and clanking into Hondurans, even though it was 6-0. Even though he missed a sitter, I enjoyed his enthusiasm. ThiKu
Hume is an English 3rd tier striker. At 31 he won't be much help to qualify for 2018. It's time to bring in the youngsters and aim for 2022. I hate to say it, but it's true. Hume should not be counted on compared to what we all hope is around as our forwards in the next round. Jackson, Ricketts, Cava, REB (Hoilett??) and even wingers like Teibert. But yes, a huge thanks to Humey and the boys for their time and efforts over the years. It was usually less pretty than we'd hope but.....we thank you guys all the same.

In 2018 He will be 34 turning 35 not common at that age to still be on the team if your not a regular starter.
A_Gagne
Hume, was the highest energy Canadian player on the pitch by a country mile and deserved his goal. I'm not even going to comment on anything else.
Sam
He continued to put in an effort when everyone else wasn't and the game was lost. This should be the norm not something to be rewarded for...

JOGAKANATA
His attitude alone makes him a keeper. Not quite the arrogance of radz(I miss that guy), but the type of attitude that fosters a winning mentality.
Grizzly
Even though he is young enough, Hume doesn't really have the ability we need on the national team for the next WCQ cycle (though that was a cracking free kick). That being said, I wish most of his teammates had his attitude and effort. Once the team really started to sag midway through the first half I was calling for Hart to put Hume in because he is the type of guy that could inspire and motivate the rest of the team. Hart should have at least put him in before the game got totally out of reach.
Califax
I'm so tired of everyone slagging Hume. (Not saying it happened in this thread) but he was consistently left out of most peoples starting line ups and assessed as someone who will never be "that" type of player. He was exactly what we needed out there in that situation. Instead, we went with Rickets. Do we have people with more skill? Yes. Speed? Yes. Grit? No and Heart? Absolutely not. This is the type of performance that should give a guy like Hume the call up but more importantly the arm band for the next game we play. If it's in Toronto, I'll make a banner myself. Sir Alphonso Applegate
Absolutely. Hume has always played hard and with the kind of determination that is sometimes lacking in other players. He may or may not be a part of the future, but I've always respected him. Great goal last night !
gator
The guy is pure class! I don't think he has ever really got a fair shake from any of our suspect coaches over the years yet he always showed up when called for National Team duty! Do you think he would have missed the early chance that Ricketts somehow managed to screw up! Do you think he would have missed the countless sitters vs a Cuba C team Friday night? gator
One more thing while I'm in on the Hume love in: when we were waiting for tickets on the bus in Havana in front of the CSA hotel just a couple of hours before the match he (and a few others) came on the bus to thank us for being there for them! He seemed so genuine and was smiling, I just had to get off the bus and have a chat with the guy! We chatted about the impending match and English club football, he was so personable and was genuinely interested in what I had to say! A class act all round! madmonte
I'm thinking most people DID have him in their starting 11. Ledgerwood was a big surprise. Anyone who didn't say Hume said Cavallini, not Ledgerwood. Hume is great, that manager from PNE needs his head examined.
scullion44
If you see what Hume tweets you can tell he really really cares about this team.
