baulderdash77
So with the loss today the majority of this generation will not be available for another run. I say that starting with the next Gold Cup the team should focus on the next group of players. I'm talking about not calling up >30 year old players as of next year and giving all that development time to the next generation. When you look at some of the names that we have going out, it's depressing and the team will suffer for a few years, but we're suffering already. Out: Lars, Klukowski, McKenna, Jazic, de Guzman, Dunfield, Bernier, DeRo, Occean In: Borjan (as the starter), Morgan, Attakora, Henry, Tiebert, Stinson, Haber, Cavallini, REB. MapleLeaf
^^^ Sadly, because I have enjoyed watching some of those players, the majority of those players need to step aside. However what I think is the most important thing for the up and comers to take note is..................................................... Don't FU!#^)#*(!^$_#ING give away points at home. 0-0 vs Honduras at home. Enough said. Then who gives a !#)^# if we loose 20-0 in the last game when it does not matter. Just my opinion. Alberto7
I feel bad for Bernier. He didn't even get a minute in both games this week but you are right, we have to go with the youngsters.
Bully
TBH I see really dark times ahead for this team. Tonight was a critical CRITICAL game. JDG2 may have joined and perhaps Hoilett, adding to a group that would have been, for next round, Hutch, DeRo, Simpson, Jacko. Now these two players will not join, and younglins will not be attracted to team Canada. May be 10-15 years before something good happens.
ThiKu
Out: Any player over 26 that IS NOT in our first XI or an impact sub. Out: Any player over 30. Immediately, starter or not. In: Every bright youngster you can think of starting immediately. Keep: Hutch, Jackson, Ricketts, and guys of that age/ilk, but otherwise.....the rest are gone. Aim - 2022. Hoilett and JDG2? Who knows....will they say "I'm signing so we can fix this" or will they say "not worth my effort"? Depends on their character I suppose. Just to be clear - THANK YOU to the guys who did put in genuine time and effort.

Sorry I have to disagree, look at our U23 program, if it takes 6-8 years, well it will take 6-8 years, but the youngsters are good enough and are willing to play for the red and white. maplebanana
Sadly, this would also include Atiba Hutchinson and Josh Simpson, both of whom I really enjoyed watching. We better hope Piette develops at an alarmingly impressive rate.
ThiKu
No, you keep senior studs to help with the transition. Atiba and Simpson stay. Hirsch maybe stays because GK can continue to contribute for longer periods than can outfield players.

nolbertos
I'd say nationalize Camilo from the Caps and Felipe for the Impact, can't hurt not having more attacking minded players that could play for Canada, if they haven't been cap tied. tmcmurph
Can I finally get to see REB in a CMNT jersey now over players like Hume and Ricketts? +1 ^^^ Plus I am all in favour of courting Camilo & Felipe. I've long suggested a more aggressive recruitment style. Look at how many Brazilians are on Russia's & Italy's national futsal team. Do you think they care? Screw those that don't want to play for us.

No racist but I'm not seeing any Brazillian type names on the Russia team...Italy has a guy born in Argentina....I've heard about Middle Eastern countries offering citizenship to Brazillian footballers though

Their national teams are riddled with Brazilians. Italy had 7 or 9 at one point (out of 12 allowed). Russia not quite as bad but stil with 4 or 5. The Beaver
Still don't understand why DeJong did not make the pitch today. Was he hurt? Kluka has gone to la-la land. The headband has cut off circulation. DeJong could be decent for the future. Hutch, Simpson, Jackson, Cavalinni, Piette, Edgar. Truth of the matter is that we need to see how a whole lot of guys develop over the next two years. REB needs playing time, and he ain't getting much yet. If he can stay calm and learn the game, then he might work his way in. But he seems a bit of a hot head, and if he thinks he's too good to pay his dues, then he will go the way of Wyn Belotte. Mind you, Wynn looked a more promising talent than REB.

Hart put in a player who has been abysmal at best over his last couple games over a player whos last game was a decent one in a 2-0 loss. Not understanding this at all here... finchster
I hate this idea of ‘building’ for the future. It’s mostly done in sports when you have contracts and younger players who can do a similar job but cheaper. Here’s an idea, play the players that will give you the best chance to succeed until they no longer give you the best chance to succeed.

Here’s an idea, play the players that will give you the best chance to succeed until they no longer give you the best chance to succeed. You have to balance it. I think you want to make sure you're focusing on people who will realistically be options for the next qualifying cycle. A guy as old as DeRo probably won't. As a result, it makes sense to try some of the new guys at those spots. IF this next Gold Cup gets some new guys some experience I see no harm in that, though I agree there's no point in letting go of a guy like Atiba who will still be around in 4 years.
