Match 3 and 4 Predictions ( It's Time)

Canada1

Recommended Posts

I know were 2 weeks away from the crucial home and away matches against Panama but I thought it's time for us to start posting our predictions as I am sure I speak for everyone on this board that we are dying to get the WCQ's back on track.

Match #3 Sept 7th Home at BMO field

2-1 for Canada. Were unbeaten in 4 and it will continue. BMO field is becoming a positive place for our National team. We will top the group after this match with 7 pts.

Match #4 Sept 11th at Estadio Rommel Fernandez

1-1. It will be tough but Canada will somehow get an equalizer as the win in Toronto should have the boys confident to maintain top place after the 3rd match.

8 points after 4 matches. Yes I believe, this is Canada's time to make the HEX.

This is starting to make me sick. I really don't want to predict this, and suddenly I've decided I'm equally dreading these games as I am looking forward to them. I've really enjoyed this summer of bliss where we are in a position to advance to the hex a third of the way through this round.

**** is getting real.

Match 3: Canada 1 - 0 Panama

Match 4: Panama 3 - Canada 0 (this one will hurt, they are VERY strong at home)

Honduras is going to beat Cuba in Cuba, probably around 2 or 3 - 0. They will also beat them in Honduras as well, around the same scoreline. So after these four matches, the points would look like:

1. Panama - 9

2. Canada - 7

3. Honduras - 7

4. Cuba - 0

This is scary, and really makes me wish we'd taken the three points against Honduras back in June. Honestly not sure if we're even second any longer due to goal differential. I think Honduras actually takes second because they'd have more goals for, and probably a better +/- ratio as well.

Canada 1 Panama 0

Canada 1 Panama 1

Cuba 1 Honduras 1

Honduras 2 Cuba 0

I don't think Honduras is going to beat Cuba at home. Also feel that Panama may beat us at home but I think we have what it takes to get a draw. Panama is good at home but they only beat Cuba 1-0 at home last game which keeps me cautiously optimistic we can steal a point down there.

If we don't win at home against Panama we are in big trouble. That is going to be such a tough game!

one thing i can say is that Cuba will beat Honduras on one of their series. Cuba is a very dificult team to play against very hard to get around. they run all balls and dont let you play like Honduras. their lost against Panama they had some chances and they believe they can do some damage.

I've started to think, and karma wise it's not good, that September 7th will be (for the first time I can remember) a genuine party for the last 15 minutes of a home game.

3-0 Canada at home.

I think the boys are in for a dominating game. That being said, we'll lose 2-0 in Panama an Honduras will take maximum points in against Cuba. I just hope Panama can hold serve against Honduras in G5 and we kick the everlasting **** out of Cuba at BMO.

For me, there is a very real scenario that going into the last game. Honduras will not only have to beat us, they'll have to do it by 4 goals.

All that being said, A couple 3-0 wins at BMO would serve us well.

My predictions...

Game 3:

Canada 2, Panama 1

Honduras 1, Cuba 1

Game 4:

Panama 2, Canada 0

Honduras 3, Cuba 0

This would mean after this round, it would be:

Panama - 9

Canada - 7

Honduras - 5

Cuba - 1

I predict there are going to be a lot of deliriously happy people on this forum between Sept 8 and 11. We'd be leading the group and 5 points up on Honduras.

Canada 2 Panama 0 Honduras 0 Cuba 0

Panama 3 Canada 1 Honduras 2 Cuba 0

Panama - 9

Canada - 7

Honduras - 5

Cuba - 1

If Panama does what it should at home against Honduras and we do the same against Cuba, the last game can be a mean-nothing (other than cap-tying) affair for us.

We need four points. Our last game of the group stage is in Honduras and thats not going to be easy and canada already fell behind the eight ball with the home draw versus Honduras. If we split the points with Panama or do worst, we dont control our destiny anymore. This is made worst by the fact that we never score much and hence cant pad our goal diff. Cuba is no good, so it will take a shocker for honduras to not collect six points. Its not gravy to get a point in Panama, its practically a must. And its doable.

Match 3: Canada 0 - 0 Panama (Lions share of the chances but can't breakdown an organized defence)

Match 4: Panama 2 - Canada 1 (Panama comes from behind to take full points)

Honduras beat Cuba home and away.

Group ends up looking like:

1. Panama - 9

2. Honduras - 7

3. Canada - 5

4. Cuba - 0

This will put us in tough, needing full points against Cuba at home, and to rely on a Panama Victory on Oct. 12th and/or full points away to Honduras on Oct. 16th. This is a little bit of a pessimists prediction, but I think it's reality. I think in the end this one will come down to the wire and this generation of players will either get to prove what they're made of or provide more ammunition for their detractors. Should be an interesting ride either way.

My heart says we win at home and draw in Panama while Honduras drops points in Cuba and we're on our way to the Hex with a home win against Cuba in Oct.

My head is saying we draw both games with Panama (0-0 at BMO and 1-1 in Panama) and Honduras gets all 6 points against Cuba.

Panama 8

Honduras 7

Canada 6

Cuba 0

Man, right off the bat Sam pretty much says what I'm feeling, then I almost died laughing when I misread socceronly's ghj as qhj (?Que haria Jesus?). I just want to win this next game, usually I really enjoy the blissful pre match time but my feelings are more like anxiety then anything, I really want this, I don't have eyes for game four right now (to be fair I don't have the eyes for two feet in front of me without my contacts).

I really need to stop obsessively checking this thread. All of the good feelings about the home leg are good... but damn, I really think we're underestimating the Panama side. They waltzed into Honduras and won by two. Sure, Honduras looked like a bag of crap in June, but still, San Pedro Sula is always going to provide more of a home advantage than any Canadian venue. Why would anyone think getting three points is a sure (or even probable) thing, just because we're at home?

But anyway, to those predicting a Canadian clean sheet: Bless your optimism. I mean it. It's all that's keeping me from completely dissolving into a useless puddle of anxiety in the days ahead.
