Made this yesterday.. Crank it!!

Great job. The music is particularly stirring. What song is that, anyhow?

It seems vaguely familiar, like the soundtrack of a movie I've seen. The "Thor" film from 2011 perhaps? (Just a guess).

I liked it. I'm starting to get excited now.

Just starting to get excited? Man I've already had dreams based on the game on the 7th. I'm excited and terrified, and might pick up religion in the hopes it's the right one and can give us a heavenly edge lol.

Would it be going to far to say that this is the most important match for the men's team since 2000?

I only started really following the CMNT during the last WCQ cycle, so I can't speak with much authority on the past (although I do remember watching a game on TV against Belize in Kingston and a loss against Guatemala at another point I think...), but even if this is the most important match since 2000, I think it will be less important than the final game in Honduras.

I would have to check the tie-breakers, but even if we win against Panama in and Cuba in Toronto, we have to assume Honduras will win both their games against Cuba as well. If we lose in Panama City, we would then have 10 points and Honduras 7 prior to our last game in Honduras. When is the last time we got a result away in Honduras?

Also, is the first tie-breaker goal differential or head-to-head? I'll have to look into it.

This is my assumption as well, but I keep telling myself that Cuba will steal points from sombody at home. We already escaped there with 3 points, so now it is on Honduras. I also remind myself that Cuba only lost 1-0 on the road to Panama, so it is not impossible Cuba steals points at Honduras. Afterall, Honduras lost 2-0 to Panama at home and I recall reading that their fans booed them off the field at full time (or something of that extent). I reserve hope that they fail to take 3 points in Cuba, because I think the negative momentum will kill any Olympic buzz for their home fixture. I would love nothing more than to see Honduras fail.

I watched the Panama v Cuba game online, and was quite impressed with the chances that Cuba created in the last 15 minutes. A bit of luck and they would have beat Panama 2-1, as they had 2 huge opportunities that just missed. I can see Cuba taking points from Honduras, and although it would be considered an upset, it should not be a surprise.

Ya Cuba will steal some points... from us at home in October when we can't score a goal.

This is also something we must watch for. In no way is it a foregone conclusion that we take 3 points at home against Cuba. Realistically, we need 4 points from the Panama fixtures to remain in a good position (3 is the absolute minimum). Because I can see a tie at BMO come October. Hopefully Cuba and Honduras tie their games, that would give us a 4 (or 3) point lead on Honduras, and a 5 (or 4) point lead on Cuba

I think we are going to need a result in Honduras when push comes to shove.

What a voyageur-like thing to say. That would be all too familiar.

But cynicism aside, I think our squad is playing more cohesively than they have in past cycles. What I mean by that is that they are playing better than (and beating) the teams they should be better than, something which has never been a given with Canada. Too many times in the past we've seen this team get mediocre to poor results against teams full of domestic players like Cuba and Trinidad. I don't think talent-wise many of us would rate our 2012 squad as better than our 2008 squad, yet we've already doubled their point total with 4 games still to play. Our guys should be way more confident going into these matches than they were 4 years ago when they were going to Mexico with only 1 point, tied for last in the group. How could they not be? The Honduras result was disappointing, but they've had some time and a friendly win to help them get focused again. The fact that we're complaining about 4 points instead of 6 shows that we've taken some baby steps in the right direction.

That, and the fact that when they are all on the pitch together, you can definitely SENSE the team solidarity, the team spirit, the willingness to fight for each other that may have been lacking in past cycles as well.

If we're not careful we could be in the position of needing a win in Honduras on the last match day. As much as the Hondurans could fall flat on their face against Cuba, after seeing the Olympics, that Honduran squad is going to be completely different and rejuvenated and I would not be surprised if they win their next 3 games (home and away with Cuba and in Panama).

We must win our 2 remaining home games.
