Sinclair for Flagbearer

From the name that I had chosen, it is obvious that I am a big fan of Sinclair. I, however, am not only impressed with her soccer skills but also with her leadership and her passion for her country and her sports. Here is the proof:

“I mean, she was the first person after the U.S. game to say ‘I’m so proud of you guys, I love you guys, we’re here.’ said Erin McLeod.

“And that’s the thing with Sinc. For a long time maybe she was above and beyond this team’s talent, but she’s always stuck with us, and always believed in us the most. And that’s why she’s our captain. I think if anything, she just carried more weight on her shoulders. She’s been comfortable carrying the Canadian soccer team on her back.

“I think she’s been an incredible person to carry that on her back, but I think she’s happy to finally share that.”

Contrast this with Certain Syd kid who jumped ship cause she has a better chance at the gold medal.

During the game vs U.S., Buehler was down injured but Canada had possession and momentum. Sinclair could have continued playing and launch a dangerous attack. She, however, directed her team-mates to kick the ball out of bounce. This is what I called class.

That is why I take exception to the comments that Sinclair never showed up in the big games and blah blah blah. I knew there would be one day She would silence her critics by her performances on the field. I just did not realize it is going to be in this Olympics.

To me, Sinclair is the only choice for a flagbearer on Sunday.

Like to congratulate Team Canada for their victory today. They have come such a long way and have worked so hard for this. A medal well deserved. Bravo Canada.

She has my vote.

International women's football is light years ahead of where it was a decade ago. Fu'k, I'd say it's a quantum leap forward from where it was just five years ago. To my eye the progress over recent years has been stunning and in 2012 a medal producing result (which hasn't be bought and paid for by the USSF, it's incognito friends and their Swiss Nazi bankers) is one of full value. A major accomplishment achieved in sport against serious GLOBAL competition.

Christine Sinclair is that rare Canadian athlete who can compete and put the Fear of God into the opposition in a serious world-wide sport. You'd have to go back to Lennox Lewis, Donovan Bailey or Steve Nash to find that sort of animal.

So yeah, to my mind, Christine Sinclair. Front and centre, Pearson's Cloth in hand, grinning from ear to ear.

Im for it, seems like everyone else is for it too. She does have competition from Canada's only Gold medalist (whos name I can't remember, trampoline athlete) But all of Canada has been captivated by the story of Sinclair and the Women's soccer team. Been seeing several articles making the case for Sinclair being the flagbearer. Lets hope it all goes as expected, would be great for this sport in Canada.

Sinclair has had many moments in the limelight, and doubtless will get many more. Rosie MacLennan, our only gold medal winner, has had just this moment so far. Seeing that she has saved us from the shame of not getting a gold at all, my vote goes for her. Just imagine how we'd feel if she hadn't won.

I'll have to re-watch the segment of her interview in the CTV studio where she received the medal from the Ministry of Sport, but which medal is that again? And we give out medals for sporting excellence? Didn't know that. Great to see her receive it though, man the CSA must just be frothing at the mouth thinking of what a marketing machine Christine has become from these games. I sure hope the positive fallout from these games is as much as it could be.

It was the Queen's Diamond Jubilee Medal, and is being awarded to 60,000 eminent Canadians in all fields in honour of HM Queen Elizabeth's 60th year on the throne.
