madmonte
I'm not arguing that Turkey is a bad league. I'm arguing that you are saying Romania is far more horrid than it actually is. I don't think the quality of football in Romania is nearly as bad as you guys are saying. I myself can look up the rankings of the leagues in Europe, but the disparity between is not as super high as all that. That is like saying the 11th ranked tennis player in the world is naturally better than the 22nd ranked in the world, and should necessarily win. if you go off rankings only, then absolutely. But really neither make that big of dents in Europe. And you can go and find more info to back up the claims, I'll go and find info the other way myself, we could play that game all day. Basically what I'm claiming is the rankings ARE somewhat objective. Is Turkey a better league? Yes. Is it a significant difference? That is more objective. My opinion is that maybe I misspoke a little, and you guys honed in on my word "slightly". Let me rephrase that perhaps Sivasspor is only slightly better than Vaslui. Midtable Turkey vs top table Romania. But my hope is that Borjan plays for Sivasspor and they finish strong in Turkey. That pretty much destroys ALL my arguments, and he would be playing for a definitely better team. That's the best case scenario, right?
jpg75
Madmonte, what you are saying sounds very reasonable to me. IMO, the gap between Turkey and Romania is not the chasm that some are making it out to be and i agree that Romania is at least somewhat stronger than the current rankings would indicate (it is NOT a weaker league than the Cypriot league for instance). Sam
I know this is purely anecdotal and not backed up by any real stats or things like that, but just watching the goals Josh Simpson scored during his time in Turkey showed some pretty poor defending. I've seen quite a number of games in Turkey and think the quality of defending is definitely below standard, however there are some very impressive teams going forward. Whereas I've never watched a game in the Romanian League so don't think I can comment on the merits of it. Just saying that I don't think the Turkish League is as good as many on this forum were making it out to be when Josh Simpson was ripping it up over there. Well, the one thing that must be noted about the Turkey league, their fans, and their players, is they absolutely love and value individual skill on the ball, sort of like Brazil, rather than team defending and passing. It's what their fans (great fans) go wild over. As we CMT fans know, that is definitely one thing that Simpson brings to the table, and that is one reason why Turkey loved him. DeRo would have been popular as hell over there too!
nolando
Edgar played 90 in CM as Rochdale beat Burnley 3-1 on Aug. 7. Couple of strange comments suggesting that he has to fight his way into the sside (again?) and that he missed training/playing over the summer "for obvious reasons." In the end it turned out to be a 4-4-2 diamond system, with David Edgar sitting in front of the defence and Danny Ings behind the forwards. Eddie Howe attributed the selection post-match to his desire to give players equal game-time, but that doesn’t sit right with me. “It was a strange team, because we wanted to give players game time and rest a few who had played a lot of football. We had to mix and match a little bit,” he told burnleyfc.com. “David hasn’t had a lot of football this summer for obvious reasons and we wanted to play Danny, who we rested on Saturday. “Those two needed to play and needed to find a system to get them in the side in a position where they felt comfortable.” http://nonaynever.net/10594/impending-stock-transfer-cant-happen-soon-enough/
nolando
^ Perhaps the manager is referring to the extra ten days off Edgar had in early-to-mid-July after playing for Canada, but that's still a strange description to me: And yesterday he welcomed back defender David Edgar, who was given special dispensation to return to training later than the rest of his team mates due to his international schedule with Canada over the summer. Edgar has had an extra 10 days’ rest after featuring in three international games in June, against the United States, Cuba and Honduras. http://www.burnleyexpress.net/sport/football/burnley-fc/no-offers-for-burnley-ace-mccann-1-4745021
