South Africa went down 1-4 to the Swedes on opening day, and were down 0-3 on 21 minutes. They were outshot 16-6 and out-cornered 10-1. Fouls were 4-4. Portia Modise (above) scored for South Africa on a 45 yard bomber catching Hedvig Lindahl (who is a solid GK) napping.

Banyana Banyana (The Girls) were formed in 1993 and this Olympic qualification is their first for any major international senior women's tournament. They narrowly missed out for Germany under the spectre of the Equatorial Guinea gender allegations.

Their 2012 matches:

06/23: Nigeria 0-0 TIE (A)

06/16: Zambia 2-1 WIN (H)

06/03: Nigeria 1-1 TIE (H)

05/26: Zambia 4-1 WIN (A)

05/20: Tanzania 5-2 WIN (A)

03/21: Ghana 1-1 (5:4) WIN (SO) (H)

03/06: Scotland 0-2 LOSS (*)

03/04: Northern Ireland 2-0 WIN (*)

03/01: New Zealand 0-0 TIE (*)

02/28: South Korea 1-2 LOSS (*)

* neutral ground

The only time we have played South Africa was two years ago in the Cyprus Cup, winning 2-1. Their current #11 Noko Matlou opened the game in injury time at the end of the first half, but in the second half UVic's Kendra Flock levelled and then Christina Julien bagged the winner.

Morace's comments after the game were: "For us, having already qualified was a great scenario as players who haven’t seen much action in the tournament were able to play. I thought these players played well. In the second half when we added our more experienced players the match changed.”

Our lineup was: Erin McLeod, Robyn Gayle, Myriam Bouchard, Cindy Walsh, Marie-Eve Nault, Jodi-Ann Robinson, Laura Chénard, Sari Raber, Caley Miskimmin, Kendra Flock, Desiree Scott

Sinclair and Matheson came in at halftime and Canada switched from a 4-4-2 to a 4-3-3. Not only did the changes result in a pair of goals but a number of other narrowly missed opportunities.

Looks like blended coverage (with Judo and women's weight lifting) on CTV while TSN only carries the bike road race all morning. If you're lucky enough to get RDS you can watch the game on a dedicated feed. I don't see where the "live stream" on the CTV site has channel choosing capabilities...

CTV has all those events listed for 8:00 AM - 12:30 PM EDT, so hopefully they will fit in the entire soccer game from 9:45 to 11:45 with minimal interruptions.

There seems to be more than one way to find the stream you want. I think the best is to go to your sport of interest and links will appear on that sport's schedule when events go live (followed by replay links soon afterwards). So for Canada vs. South Africa, go here (the page for all three field sports), then scroll down a bit until you see the schedule for field hockey with "Handball" and "Soccer" tabs next to it, click the "Soccer" tab and then "Day 1" -- links will appear (you have to refresh, of course) as games kickoff. Alternately, on the "Viewer's Guide" page, scroll down past the television channels to "World Feed" and select the event you want -- again, links will appear as games kickoff.

CTV showed the entire women's basketball match, so I'd be surprised if they didn't show it and show the other stuff in half time. There are no Canadians in either of those events.

Just think if you were in Newfoundland you could get up and play a round of golf and then watch the game.

The Japan/Sweden tie takes some of the drama away from the game and determines the required outcome of Tuesday's game. We now must win both to avoid either elimination or wildcarding the Americans in the quarters, both of which would be essentially the same thing according to Vegas oddsmakers.

Sweden are a quality side and a little unpredictable like their men's hockey program. We've played them four times in the last 18 months and are 2-2, and it would be nice to give them some payback for 2003.

But now, let the games begin.

Tancredi scores /1-0
Sinclair touch has been suspect up to now... 16 minute ...lots of give aways, then runs to try to recover..... too many offsides by her at least three at this point... luckly we have Matheson and Tancredi working well.

I believe if we won by 4 goals then a draw would put us through in 2nd on the total goals scored tiebreaker.

5 minutes left for 2!

Edit: 3 minutes left to get 1 more!

Assuming you know the Japan vs. Sweden result (ie. spoiler)..... No, because if we draw Sweden then they will have 5 points to our 4.

That is the scariest CB tandem I have ever seen from Canada (so much indecision and giveaways) If we play Sweden with them in there we will get crushed. Sesselman and Wilkinson had good solid games.

Scott was the best Midfielder for Canada again. Matheson (is still not up to full strength) and Schmidt played poorly (too slow to react when they had the ball and then could not get there passes thru when they had the time).

Tancredi is doing what she needs to do to keep starting (absolutely no way should Filigno replace her in starting lineup)

Sinclair had a very poor game as well I thought yet scored 2 goals that only Sinclair could score for us (otherwise it's 1-1 and we are done)

I always liked Filigno and today she confirmed my liking. She is above the rest of the pack and she should be a starter.

She has a good nose for being in the right place, and a lot of courage, but she seems physically weak. She's often off-balance or even falling down when jostling, and isn't stably set to control the ball when it comes to her. I think she either has to work on her strength, or not get so physically involved.
