Apparently winning a World Cup isn't good enough to get respect: http://goo.gl/RyPzq

Agree with you Vic ! Shame on Japan for treating winningless U-23 men's team better, seating them in business class, while women world cup winners get seated in premium economy of the same exact flight. Clear case of women discrimination ! Men's "professional" status is no good excuse for such a lack of class towards women !

Apparently yes, on both TSN and Sportsnet (!) as well as RDS.

I wonder if our version of on TV is the same as theirs.

The game starts, then they cut to track and field, back to the game for an update, then a 7 minute interlude on London museums, back to archery.....

Are they showing the game, or showing the game.

The Japan game is before the official opening so no worries there.

Japan heavy favourites for the game Wednesday at 4/7, Canada 7/2, the tie is 11/4.

We are approximately the odds of France against the Americans, and slightly better than the Ferns against the home team.

I just checked Sportsnet Bell TV guide and on all their channels for tomorrow at 8:30 am PT they have announced: Fifa under 19 Women World Championship. Japan vs. Canada. From Commonwealth Stadium in Edmonton. I think Sportsnet or Bell are a bit confused. TSN on the other hand got it right. Rise and shine tomorrow!

A bit more Japanese info:

Australia coach Tom Sermanni, whose side lost 1-0 to Japan in the Olympic qualifiers in September, said that the game demonstrated the difference between the two sides. "Japan were outstanding today and played a fantastic match," said Sermanni. "We found it very difficult to get possession. When we did get possession, we found it very difficult to keep possession and for most of the game we were under significant pressure."

Nadeshiko Japan boss Sasaki Norio said the opening game of the London Olympics will be important to give a boost not only to his side, but to all those representing Japan at the Summer Games. “Starting our Olympic campaign ahead of everyone else, we feel we also have an important role for the entire Japanese delegation. We want to have a convincing win over Canada and collect three points to give us a boost and to give a boost to everyone else.”

JFA Honorary President Ogura Junji on Tuesday met the Nadeshiko Japan players a day before the start of the women’s tournament of the London Olympics, and he asked them for a favor. “I asked them for a favor – to take me to Wembley Stadium,” said Ogura. “Nobody has won the World Cup and the Olympics back-to-back. So, it would be great if they could be the first to do that.

It's the same on Rogers. Weird.

Man...I can understand the first goal (very confident finishing by Kawa) but the second....like a punch to the gut. We need to be a lot more creative on attack in the second if we have any shot at making this a game.
