Needs a new thread as a newbie wouldn't even know we are playing given how messy the threads are at times.

"Canada has not faced Trinidad and Tobago since the two nations squared off a remarkable five times in 2000"

This really surprises me and makes me feel really old at the same time.

The “Soca Warriors” to play Canada.

Thursday, 19 July 2012 12:20

By: Shaun Fuentes (TTFF).

tt-training-2012.jpgTrinidad and Tobago’s Senior Men’s team will face Canada in a friendly international on August 15th at the Central Broward Regional Complex in Fort Lauderdale.

The game was finalized after previous discussions between the Trinidad and Tobago Football Federation and the Canada Soccer Association over the past few weeks.

TTFF Marketing Manager Anthony Harford said initially the match was scheduled to play at the Lockhart Stadium as part of a double header with Panama and Guatemala meeting into the other encounter.

However those plans fell through but both sides were in agreement that the match should still take place.

Harford said that due to financial constraints, all of T&T’s remaining matches for 2012 are likely to be played away from home as it was more viable for the TTFF.

T&T are away to Puerto Rico in September while an invitation has been extended from a European opponent for a game to be played at a later date.

T&T fans are in for a treat on August 15th as while the game will be termed a closed door affair, the gates will be opened to the fans.

“There will be no cover charge and as such fans of the national team can attend the game and show their support,” Harford told TTFF Media.

“The difference in cost for renting the stadium with gates included as opposed to without is quite significant and we thought it would make sense to make the sacrifice.

Our national team needs the match practice at this time and we are striving to ensure we get in as much games as possible as we look further down the road. Hopefully the time will come when we can reap any possible profits.

“At this time it is simply too costly for the TTFF to stage any matches in Trinidad because of what it takes to fly teams into the country and also fit the bill for their accommodation etc.

It makes better sense to either play the matches at venues such as the one in Fort Lauderdale where it’s easier for teams to assemble or elsewhere depending on the match arrangements made by the host country,” Harford said.

The T&T team will include some of its overseas-based professionals including in-form Slovak-based striker Lester Peltier, Racing Genk midfielder Khaleem Hyland, Stoke City forward Kenwyne Jones, Vietnam-based midfielder Hughtun Hector and United States-based players Keon Daniel, Darryl Roberts, Kevin Molino, Carlyle Mitchell and Sheanon Williams, who earns his first call up to the T&T team.

Williams, whose father is Trinidadian, was a member of the USA Under 20 team at the 2009 FIFA Under 20 World Cup and was also in their recent Olympic squad at the CONCACAF qualifiers. Williams has been expressing interest in wearing the T&T shirt for some months now.

The home-based players invited include Jan Michael Williams, Cleon John, Seon Power, Joevin Jones, Curtis Gonzales, Rodell Elcock, Daneil Cyrus, Richard Roy and Devorn Jorsling.

Hutson Charles will serve as interim head coach.

“This is a good match for us at this stage of our preparations for the Digicel Cup,” Charles told TTFF Media.

“We know that Canada is a decent, organized team and they have shown some good form in their World Cup qualifying matches recently.

We are definitely looking forward to the challenge and at the same time using the opportunity to get a decent work out with a combination of some of our overseas and home based players in the squad,” Charles added.

Canada, coached by Trinidadian-born Stephen Hart, are preparing for World Cup qualifiers against Panama and Cuba in September.

T&T’s last outing against Canada was in 2000 in a 2002 World Cup qualifying match at the Queen’s Park Oval. Goals by Russell Latapy, Reynold Carrington, Stokely Mason and Angus Eve.

T&T also won an earlier qualifier 2-0 in Edmonton with Dwight Yorke and Eve netting the goals. Canada defeated T&T 1-0 in the semi-final of the 2000 CONCACAF Gold Cup and went on to win the tournament in the United States.

Both countries also drew 0-0 in a friendly in Port of Spain in January, 2000.

I went to Trinidad in 2000 to watch the Canada vs TT match... the CDN boys took a beating that day.

I"m hoping for a turn around in score this time but TT seems like a decent team for a prep. CAN should be able to handle them and TT is probably going to field a younger inexperienced squad because they are in prep mode for 2018.

If we could get a stream for St. Kitts a match in Florida shouldn't be a problem, hopefully it can get done

But wasn't this feed just lifted from a St. Kitts TV station with Gerry and Craig doing the commentary from Toronto and then streamed on sportsnet? If there is no TV crew filming it to start with it may be hard to get a stream up here.

Sportsnet brought the equipment and filmed it with just one camera IIRC, it wasn't on TV in St. Kitts

No surprise there. I'd like to see him and Morgan each get a half at LB, provided Morgan is also there. Morgan might not be in the squad though since TFC are playing on that date.

I would like to see that as well.

You would think at least one of Morgan or Dunfield would be called. Would TFC kick up much of a fuss about losing just one? It is a FIFA date after all. If it is indeed only one player they call, I wonder who Hart would prefer and who TFC would rather release? Dunfield hasn't been in the CMNT group for a while so that might favour his inclusion, but Bernier is almost a certainty which perhaps makes Dunfield surplus.

I also think this is a good time to bring in Henry. We may need more cover for RB sooner or later, and the kid has played at least 40 games for TFC in all competitions now. That includes away matches in Mexico and central america. That is more experience than Stinson, who has already been called into a camp.

We seem to have enough cover at left back right now with De Jong on the road to recovery, Klukowski moving to APOEL in Cyprus and Jazic playing as well as he did in the three June matches. However our midfield situation is very precarious at the moment. Even if we add Bernier into the mix that gives us Johnson, De Guzman, Hutchinson and Bernier as natural centre midfielders. Of course Ledgerwood filled in there nicely for Hutchinson in the game against the USA and part of the Cuba game, but that isn't his natural position.

So if only one of Morgan or Dunfield gets the call, I bet it'll be Dunfield. I'm sure that will frustrate a lot of people on here and understandably so considering his poor performances in the past year or so with Canada, but there just aren't a whole lot of other options...

Dunfield is playing with confidence right now, I've been one of his biggest critics but I think he deserves a call. If he can play with confidence and actually make constructive plays I'd be happy, he was playing way too predictable last round.

Haha, when I was wrote "I'm sure that will frustrate a lot of people on here", I specifically was thinking "it would really piss off Keegan". But if you are giving the Dunfield the go ahead based on his TFC performances, than I suspect that Hart will as well.

In the future I'd like to see DeJong used as a central midfielder in a midfield 3 especially since we seem so deep at LB and not so much in midfield and although Ledgerwood did ok last set of games he is very limited. Even wouldn't mind trying Kluka there if we play a 4-3-3 I think Dejong especially since hes played more advanced in the past should fill in nicely with Deguzman and Hutchinson. In a 4-3-3 when Dejong is fit I would see our midfield core as Hutchinson, Deguzman, Bernier, Johnson and Dejong, I really prefer those 5 guys at all times to Ledgerwood and/or Dunfield although both have been very loyal soldiers that always give their best.

Personally I'd like to see Morgan in camp I see him moreso as a player we will use and will be a MNT mainstay for years to come, and being in camp with guys like Jazic and Kluka has to be good for his development.

Development is nice, but we are in the middle of a WCQ'ing campaign. It's time to call the best we can get.

I haven't always followed Ledgerwood's career very closely, but I scanned the lineups from most of his team's matches last season and he played far more often as a midfielder than a right back. Which might explain why he has typically been so poor for Canada at RB. I have far less of a problem with him in the team as a midfielder, though there are at least 4 guys ahead of him (Hutchinson, Johnson, Bernier, and JDG -- in that order).

Bernier may give us more depth at mid. Before I'd consider moving an LB into midfield (I'd push Morgan there before De Jong just my two cents), I'd move an LB to RB (like Klukowski has already done for us) and move Edgar back to CB to pair McKenna. Just to get our best four defenders out there. Nothing against guys like Hainault...he may be better than Klukowski or Morgan or whoever IS to replace. In fact, I'm pretty fine with the defensive lineup we used the last couple of matches honestly. Why tinker when we've allowed 2 goals in the last like, 8 WCQ competitions?

No surprise, but it looks like Hainault is confirmed for the Aug. 15th friendly:

Let's not underestimate Hainault ... IMO, he's pretty much an automatic starter, if healthy, along with Edgar and McKenna. De Jong is also an auto-starter if he's healthy, and I think exploring the possibility of him playing midfield is a natural one.
