W-League playoffs this weekend

Four Canadian teams in the conference playoffs this year. Laval Comètes take on the Toronto Lady Lynx and the Quebec City Amiral play the Hamilton FC Rage in Quebec City on Saturday. The winners of these games play on Sunday for a chance to join the Ottawa Fury in the final four championship the following weekend in Ottawa. Since the Fury are hosting the final four, they qualified automatically. It doesn't matter as they were the class of the Central Conference with a 10-2 record.

Eastern Conference will see DC United Women host a four team playoff consisting of Charlotte Lady Eagles, Long Island Rough Riders and Virginia Beach Piranhas. Winner advances to the final four in Ottawa.

Western conference: The Whitecaps Women had a poor year and did not make the playoffs, which in this case will be a one game affair between the Seattle Sounders Women and the Pali Blues(played in Fullerton, California). Winner advances to Ottawa.

DC United Women and Pali Blues have been exceptional this year. United have a record of 11 wins and 1 tie while Pali compiled a 13 win, 1 tie season (The Western Conference teams play 14 games while everyone else only play 12).

I predict Pali and DC United will meet in the final in Ottawa. I hope the Fury can make it to the final but I'm not sure they will be able to beat the powerhouse DC or Pali teams.

It's great to hear everyone can enjoy the games. That's a big step forward.

Pali is the class of this field. Any team with the WPS fifth pick playing off the bench is a solid side. The first three picks in that 2010 draft are on the U.S. women's team and the fourth is the team's mobile, intelligent and talented central defender.

DC had a good year but their division is soft and they've only beaten four teams this year.

Anything can happen but the Fury have much more talent.

Book the time into your calendar to catch the games and make sure your volume is on.

I believe they have beaten 5 teams.....the last team...Charlotte Lady Eagles who finished above the Atlanta Silverbacks in the standings after beating them once 1--0...tied once 2--2 and lost once 1--0....and when Atlanta played Ottawa Fury last year...what was the score again? 6--1 in favour of Atlanta.....

I stand corrected on the playoff game... five teams and not four. Although that's pretty subtle. And beating a team that won-lost-tied a team (that isn't the same team this year) who beat Ottawa last year is a fairly subtle too.

Sanderson and Lohman are of course globe-travelling professionals, but after that it's a bit of a drop. As I said, the result is anyone's guess, but Ottawa are the more talented team. At least in terms of national team experience which is probably a pretty accurate metric.

Anything can happen but the Fury have much more talent. Anyone who doubted about Vic statement owe him excuses. I must confess I was skeptical about that statement but I would'nt have dared to challenge it on the forum. Good for me ! I avoided to excuse myself afterwards.

Congratulations to the Fury ! To the Amiral also ! What an accomplishment for a team that relied mostly on local talent like Vic stressed it in another post.

Good shout by Vic!

Thought Pali played much better than Friday but a silly foul late in injury time gave the Fury the chance they needed and they buried it. PKs were exciting as one would expect with 1000 people willing the Fury to victory.

Cheers
