Bernier?

Interesting question. I see him more as cover for an oft-injured Hutchinson at the AM spot than replacing either JDG or Johnson as a starter but he should definitely be called into the squad.

Ya I agree with this, if we play a central midfield 3 Bernier should be 4th behind Hutch, Johnson and JDG. He should be in the squad and should be ahead of Ledgerwood every time. Hes a good all round player and seems to be on form now with Montreal and has locked down a steady spot its very good for us.

He's been really inconsistent for Impact. Bernier at AM... meh. I'd get him over Ledgerwood but that ain't saying much

He'll be there. Of that I'm confident. To what playing capacity is yet to be determined, but he'll definitely be there, as one of those selected.

You do realize that the reason Bernier is being mentioned as a call up in this and other threads is that after some difficulty in adapting to MLS at the beginning, he has been consistently good for the Impact for the last couple of months.

Bernier will be guaranteed a call up in September through his play but it's not like we have any other options... Dunfield? Please no. Piette seems like a good prospect going forward but he won't be playing first team minutes.

@jonovision - The Beaver didn't say anything about Bernier being the first XI, just "line-up."

Should Bernier be ahead of Ledg? Normally I'd say "yes" in a heartbeat, full stop. But Ledg played quite very well in the first two games and the USA match. Maybe Bernier ahead of Morgan since we have Jazic and Kluka at the LB role....

If Ledg can replicate that form he's deserving of a call-up again.

I know this is a Bernier post but will De Jong be fit by then?

Edit: Bernier>Piette. Bernier should be called ahead of Piette, and thus we can leave Morgan in the team. Piette has no chance at getting minutes v. Panama.

If Hart's "you need to have minutes or you don't play" rule sticks, then Bernier has to not only be called to camp, but start ahead of the now perma-benched-cause-Mariner-is-a-doofus-that-only-plays-his-own-signings, JDG?

I agree with those thinking that Bernier should be called into the squad. I've found him to be quite good the times I've watched the Impact play and he's been very reliable for the CNMT. Not sure I'd start him but there are way worse options out there.

Absolutely right...there can be a big transition period, MLS is a different style of football. Some people never DO adapt, so kudos to Bernier. That's also why I sort of flinch every time some Canadian gets cut from a european team and people say he'd be great in MLS...because if they AREN'T history shows it's the end of their career.

Bernier was really good last night. His vision is very good and some of his passing last night was exceptional. If we are trying to defend a lead he is the perfect type of player to bring off the bench. In the past we've had difficulty holding onto leads (see Gold Cup vs. Panama, U-23's vs. Cuba) and we often just collapse onto ourselves, whereas we really need to keep possession and hold onto the ball as we did when down to 10 men in Cuba. I think Bernier is the right type of player who can slow a game down and take the sting out of it when needed. Plus he can play a variety of different roles in the midfield.

I think he will be called into the August friendly and also the Panama WCQ fixtures if he keeps this form. He now has 5 goals and 5 assists near the halfway point of the MLS season. A few of those were PK's, but those are still decent numbers, and when your club lets you take the PK's,you clearly are an important player. It will be interesting to see if he can break into the starting 11.

I think that this was a good decision for him to move to MLS and I am very comfortable with him in the squad the way he is playing.
