tmcmurph
"Both players agreed three-year deals. Frankfurt did not disclose transfer fees but Kicker magazine reports each player cost around C1.5 million ($1.9 million)." - http://www.cbc.ca/sports/soccer/story/2012/07/03/sp-frankfurt-signs-canadian-striker-olivier-occean.html Is that a record transfer for a Canuck? If they are paying that much in transfer he must have got a nice contract. Sweet and great to see for OO.

Tuscan
Will have to keep an eye on the other moves Eintract makes over the next while. If they bring in other strikers Olivier could have a tough fight on his hands to keep a starting position. I suppose thats good, as it'll keep him battle-ready for the fall qualifiers. Bad if he ends up riding pine instead of starting consistently.
Grizzly
Interesting tidbit from an interview with Frankfurt's sport directors whose sons have played against Occean: http://bundesligafanatic.com/interview-eintracht-frankfurts-bruno-hubner/ Bild: Your three sons are professional footballers. Have they given you advice on who you should sign? Bruno Hübner: Yes. Both Benjamin and Florian have played with Wehen against Occean. They think he is good, and they told me how he uses his body on the pitch and about his movement. If they aren’t enthused about one of the decisions I make, they sometimes ask me if I’m really convinced(about said decision).

I was never really sold on his off the ball movement until this year. He made a nice little run before that goal he scored against St. Kitts at BMO from the corner to lose his man and find some space in the box, then against Cuba he obviously made a perfect move in the box to come in right between the two centre backs. This seemed to be one of the biggest problems with Canadian forwards in the past, is that they can't lose their man and their movement is very static, whereas Occean does seem to be a little more creative at making those clever little runs in the box, despite his lack of pace. I don't think he's that slow (for his size). Yeah, if you are comparing him to Jackson, sure...but I bet he outruns Peter Crouch and even Huntelaar, and other taller guys at close to 30 years old by a country mile. Those guys do some things better than Occean, but running isn't one of them. At times Occean doesn't look like a good sprinter, because it's not really part of his game...he's a hold up player who'll take a pass and wait for the offence to catch up (which is exactly what we want, right?) but if a quick player gets out wide with the ball, Occean is pretty good at materializing in the box or on the edge of the box where required with a loping stride to get in decent (if not perfect) positions. But then...it's not like he IS Huntelaar.
