Oranje
Thought I’d start a thread so we keep the MOACA thread free of discussion, so from the original post there: "On the RPB Alberto Giuliatto is set to go on trial at TFC. I Wiki’d him and sure enough he is described as Italian-Canadian. Even though he’s 28, wouldn’t mind cover at LB with Serie A experience. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alberto_Giuliatto"
TFCfan4life
Good find. We are short on depth all over the pitch from a national team perspective. Someone send this to mister Hart.
nolando
Well, we're short of cover at every position EXCEPT left back, although I wouldn't kick him out of my fantasy roster. My question is, what did it take this long to identify him as having Canadian roots, I wonder.

Kezmancccc
How come a player like this hasn't already been looked at or caped by the national team?

Keegan
How come a player like this hasn't already been looked at or caped by the national team? It obviously hasn't been a priority for him and how would the CSA ever know if he didn't share previously? He probably also didn't care much because he's 100% Italian and has always had that dream in his mind.
TFCfan4life
He will Apparently be on trial with Toronto FC. http://www.gazzetta.it/Calciomercato/15-06-2012/giovinco-scatto-juve-inter-ora-handanovic-911538902430.shtml 12.23 — Il terzino Giuliatto, a scadenza con la Nocerina, sosterrà un periodo di prova nel Toronto Fc (Major League Soccer). Translation from Google Translate: 12.23 - The fullback Giuliatto, maturity with Nocera, will support a trial in Toronto FC (MLS).

Guest Dave
Reminds me a bit of the Eliot Godfrey discovery all those years ago. With Mr. Godfrey in mind, I searched on the wiki site for this exact phrase "-Canadian footballer" and got over 1000 hits. Many seemed to be things like "So and so is a Colombian-Canadian footballer playing with xxxx FC in the Uruguay 7th division", but I wonder if a careful scan of 10 or so pages of output might identify a legitimate world class player eligible for Canada? What if we were to thus identify and recruit some mid-level Serie A striker whose father was born in Torotno, and who is happy to take the pitch for us vs Panama.......? just that one guy with a sniper's instinct around the goal. Oranje
Reminds me more of a Pacheco. Older, not born in Canada, playing at a decent level, and adds depth to the squad (even if it is to an already "deep" position). Also, he may push Morgan down the depth chart but assuming he has the quality, this can only enhance Morgans development working with him at TFC (assuming he lands there) and with Giuliattos age he won’t be around in 5-10 years, right when Morgan will be entering his prime. Haha, I did te same thing on wiki after I first saw the title of this forum. There are quite a few pages to go through. Even saw a player at AC Milan who I half Canadian, but he looks like there is no way he will pick Canada over Italy.
ThiKu
The Italian you are referring to is Bryan Cristante. Unless Milan has 2 Canucks, I suppose. B.C. has 7 youth caps for Italy, and 1 senior sub appearance for Milan (in the Champs League). My guess is he is very Italian but should his Italy NT career not going anywhere there is no harm in the CSA getting in touch and keeping tabs on him otherwise. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bryan_Cristante
villus
Was'nt their a Canadian-Portuguese defender at Milan as well?
Juby
sorry for going a bit off topic, but we need a ridiculously lingual translator who can do things as simple as type 'canadian footballer' in specific languages in foreign search engines. As a board were not bad but how often would someone with a bit of knowledge get the technically right words, but maybe the wrong phrasing/diction? I wonder how much it would cost the CSA to 'rent' a translator who speaks dozens of languagues to do some research for a month?

Lets hope those two aren't good enough for their nations of choice, although obviously Cristante isn't a traitor
ThiKu
^yes, forgot about Ferreira. Both these kids are young and years away from any senior national appearances but....worth following. What percentage of kids move from youth national team to senior national team? 5%? Less?

matthew
I would hesitate to call Cristante Canadian exactly, but he is eligible to play for us through his father: http://www.generazioneditalenti.com/2011/12/gazzetta-dello-sport-milan-chi-e.html "(suo padre è nato in Canada)" cheers, matthew
jpg75
We can pretty much slot guys like Cristante, Ferreira, Aird, Vitoria, Jono etc. under the "Never play for us unless their 1st choice definitely doesn't want them" category.

Someday this sort of thing won't happen so much, or at least it won't seem to matter as much as it does now. Someday we will have a huge crop of young talented kids who want to play for Canada.
