Recommended Posts

Here's my top 10 of best coaches based on titles they won as TD:

1. Mexico – Jose Manuel de la Torre

3 Mexicain leagues (2006, 2008 and 2010) and 1 Gold Cup (2011 with Mexico).

2. Costa Rica - Jose Luis Pintos

Won 3 Peruvian Cups (1997 Apertura, 1997 Clausura and 1999) 3 Costa Rican leagues (2002, Apertura 2003 and Clausura 2003, 1 Copa interclubes (2002), 1 Colombian league (2006) and 1 Venezuelan league (2010-11).

3. USA – Jürgen Klinsmann

Third place in 2006 WC with Germany, third place in 2005 FIFA Confederations Cup with Germany, German coach of the year (2006).

4. El Salvador – Ruben Israel

Fox Sports Awards - Best TD (2008), 3 Parguayan leagues (Apertura 2007, Apertura 2008 and Clausura 2008).

5. Guatemala – Ever Hugo Almeida

Won 2 Paraguayan leagues (1993 and 2009), 3 Guatemalan leagues (2001, 2002, 2003), 2 Ecuadorian leagues (2005 and 2006) and 1 Copa interclubes UNCAF (2001).

6. Honduras – Luis Fernando Suarez

Won 1 Colombian league (1999), third place in 2006 Conmebol WC Qualifiers (with Ecuador).

7. Jamaica – Theodore Whitmore

Won 1 Caribbean Cup (2010 with Jamaica).

8. Panama – Julio Dely Valdes

Reached Gold Cup semi-finals in 2011. I put him ahead of Hart because he was assistant coach of Malaga during 2007-09.

9. Canada – Stephen Hart

Reached Gold Cup semi-finals in 2007.

10. Antigua and Barbuda – Tom Curtis.

I envy Costa Rica and El Salvador. I believe Guatemala has a very talented TD too.

Very interesting list. Unfortunately we know that Stephen Hart is not a notably experienced coach, however we do know he allows the boys to play and really that's who will win or lose you the game. Interesting topic though!
