BrennanFan
1) TFC is the BEST football team in Canada; 2) Limp Act and Wankouver are "****e"; 3) Aron Winter is better than the losers managing the "other" teams; 4) Limp Act and Wankouver cannot "bring it" when it matters the most; 5) YOU SUCK! That is all. Discuss...

Guest Ed
AND, thanks to Rennie and the other twats running the Whitecaps, the game made both major Cdn sportsnetworks' top 10 lists for the worst faked injuries in sports that evening for that Jap/Mex/Yank mongrel's antics. How to represent the sport!
Danny Boy
Yes it's Rennie's fault that Davidson acted like an idiot. Who's fault was it that both teams played like crap? I was wishing for another thunderstorm to cancel it. Awful game.
Guest Ed
Rennie put him on the field and defended him with his post-game rant. That BS was seen by likely a million or more viewers . Nice job once again to the Whitecaps.
Danny Boy
I guess by that logic the Whitecaps are all class because Rennie put Hassli in last week to score that goal that was also seen by millions.
Grizzly
It is hard to say in individual cases how much responsibility a coach has for a player diving. However, while Rennie did build good teams in Carolina they were notorious for being the worst diving/cheating teams in the NASL by a large margin. I haven't watched enough Caps games this year to see if this has continued with the Caps but it was certainly not surprising to see this from one of his teams. I always laugh at that. I point out to them one of the greatest divers of all time was Wayne Gretzky. Don Cherry even cornered him about it on the Grapevine TV show once. I remember that distinctly as Wayne not only admitted it but said he did it to make more space (ie so people didn't hook, hold and interfere with him). Not defending diving in any sport but hockey fans seem to think soccer is the only sport where it occurs. Basketball, hockey, NFL all have their share of floppers. The NBA is out of control these days, it's almost on par with soccer in terms of it's frequency. D-Wade and BronBron have to be two if the worst. There is a difference between embellishment to draw a call (diving or flopping in most North American team sports, including soccer) and play acting, like rolling around on the ground clutching your face after getting kicked in the shin. The latter is what most find more distasteful, even if the former is more likely to affect the outcome of a match.

By pointing out that the NBA has more flopping and faking than ever doesn't mean that I think it's at all on par with soccer. I was just commenting on what seems to be the trend in NA sports, that simulation is growing in more and more sports.

Those people won't watch soccer anyway. It's an excuse. Play-acting in its own right. MLS is not competing with the NHL for viewers and shouldn't try. There are already more soccer fans in Canada than hockey fans. The problem is they watch European football. These are the viewers you need to worry about, and they certainly won't be offended by what JMD did or didn't do.

youllneverwalkalone
You don't really believe that there are more soccer fans in Canada than hockey fans? Good lord. Try selling that BS to Molson's or GMC. Maybe I'm wrong. The average NHL playoff game attracts about 1.5m in 2012. Given that there are no Canadian teams, I assume that's a pretty good indicator of general interest. The Champions League Final had 500,000 viewers, not counting the replay. Again, this would be an indicator of general interest. So let's say hockey fans in Canada outnumber soccer fans by 3:1. Fine. My point still stands, the growth for MLS is getting all those guys to join the 500,000 or so who watched Toronto vs. Montreal, not the 1.5m watching NYR/WAS. These people don't care about soccer and never will regardless of embellishment or lack thereof. I'm not saying you can't enjoy both sports, I'm saying that claiming you won't watch soccer because of diving is complete crap. It's worse than what Davidson did. At least he was touched, those people have no intention of watching soccer. Full stop.
