Seriously though, a partnership could definitely be worked out that would benefit both sides.
maccaliam
^ I think that would be a great idea - for both player and coach development.
jpg75
Not to crap on the parade, but does anyone think the Uruguayan 3rd tier is any better than say USL Pro? If that. I've never seen a lower leagues game from Uruguay, but based on the drop in quality in their 1st Div and the demographics of the country it'd be hard to say there are that many good players that their 3rd tier is as good as that in the US. Guess what i'm saying is that despite the obvious opportunity that it is 'Canada SC', might it not be in our better interest to find a bigger club to partner with? If Sheridan-Clarkson can partner with Nacional why couldn't other partnerships be formed?
maccaliam
^ I think the opportunity to learn how to play with and against a different style of play and player, plus a possibility of moving up the divisions, makes this a potentially good tool to add to our developmental options. USL Pro, CSL, NASL, etc., all have potential benefits to developing soccer in Canada - this could just be another one.

Not saying it needs to be a binding partnership but if a link can be formed... why not? This is a competitive team which I'm sure plays cup matches against large Uruguayan teams on occasion. Sure, but why couldn't one of the big youth clubs form a partnership with a club like Rampla Jrs. and have a bunch of kids go down each winter and eventually get contracts like the Clarkson kids did? If even one kid was playing in the Primera it'd probably be better than a dozen guys playing in the 3rd division.

Jason
I've been to Uruguay and I enjoyed my brief time there. I thought that it would be a perfect place to have some kind of soccer development exchange system set up. With almost all of the clubs being located in Montevideo, there are essentially no travel costs. Even if you do need to venture out of the city, trips are short. While it is relatively expensive by South American standards, the cost of living is not particularly high. There is a fantastic football culture there, and they obviously know how to develop players. And I can't imagine that salaries are that high for players. Costs would probably not be that high. I visited a 2nd division stadium when I was there and it was pretty basic. I have no idea how difficult it would be to get a work permit. And it's not the easiest place to get to from Canada. You are looking at 2-3 flights to get to Montevideo, and those flights are not particularly cheap. But I think it's a good location overall. BringBackTheBlizzard
Huracan Buceo are a reasonably well known club (not Penarol or Nacional obviously but I`ve definitely seen the name before) so if home games are being played at their stadium as opposed to at a public park there must be somebody with a bit of money behind this. Think there was some sort of Uruguay angle mentioned when the OSA president was interviewed by It`s Called Football a few months ago (late January I think with League One Ontario being the main conversation topic) which might provide some information as to what the motivation for forming this club was. youllneverwalkalone
Thought I should bump this. We've been promoted baby! http://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/en/canadian-soccer-club/startseite/verein_39782.html We're a solid 9th in the 14 team table. Move over Wimbledon, we are going to the 1st division in record time. Still no Canadians in the squad though.

Keegan
Amazing story. Always great to hear of people who come to Canada and are grateful and look to instill change in football rather than tear it down. Pretty surreal to think that a club like that could be a massive asset to us. Playing in the Uruguayan second division is a pretty good level for a young player and a great environment, especially as we really lack players who can play in central america.
