Hart said Hutch should be back for Cuba... but once again. ****.

Lets not overreact here.

Sunday really doesn't matter, it's gonna be fun as ****, we want to win bad, but it doesn't matter who plays or the result.

Hutch can play v Cuba and Honduras, the other guy practiced today. We're OK!

Without Simpson it sucks, but I believe (and I think we all should believe) that we still have enough quality to succeed without him this round. Deep breath gents!

"While Hart wouldn’t name names, it’s clear that midfielder Atiba Hutchinson was the one who didn’t train. He was in running shoes and watched Canada’s Friday session.

The veteran midfielder, however, didn’t seem to be in any difficulty and was in good spirits around the group."

That's what's in the MLS article

We're not toast without one player, Hutchinson is great but really when has he ever stepped up in a big game? We just need certain players to step up... Occean, De Rosario, Jackson and De Guzman come to mind as guys who could.

I think guys who fly under the radar could be huge... guys such as Johnson and Hainault, both don't receive the hype that some other players do but it wouldn't surprise me if they were two of our better players this round.

Hutch is a great player, but he just seems to be made of glass in recent years. I'm trying to think, when was the last time he was with the MNT and didn't get hurt?

I don't remember either. He's always the one who "picks up a knock" but really isn't surprising since he looks to be about buck 10. Not a whole lotta meat on those bones

@Footscray - no one called-up. The most "logical" replacements in Randy Edwini-Bonsu (visiting in Edmonton - like-for-like replacement), and Patrice Bernier (in MTL, not like-for-like)....neither called.

I guess we'll have de Guzman and Johnson shielding the back four behind DeRo, with Occean up top, Jackson on one side and perhaps Nakajima-Farran on the left (a two footed player, experienced in Hart's system, leaving Ricketts coming off the bench as a change of pace guy). I think it's going to be a standard Hart modus operandi for these next games, with a compact midfield, heavy two way work rate from the flank guys, but not a whole lot of offensive support for the CF. Hope DeRo is "on song" in these two qualifying matches. Some set play goals would really help.

FIFA rankings indicate that both Panama and Honduras will be moving up the CONCACAF ladder. They are currently sitting at 5th and 7th in the region and will be moving up to 3rd and 4th in the region behind only USA and Mexico.

That's nice, but the FIFA rankings don't have any real meaning until the draw for 2018 WCQ.

Do they use them for Gold Cup groups as well?

The Gold Cup draw is cooked up by CONCACAF behind closed doors over cigars and brandy. It starts with slotting so th US and Mexico have paths that only meet in the final and goes from there. There is some regard for relative strength but it really is a recurring joke.

It's not that I don't agree, because I do. However, you watch, Scottie, when the rankings come out in June. Do you think sportsnet won't be playing off the rankings of Panama and Honduras and, depending on the analysts...

1) Making excuses before the game, like saying we are only 3rd in our group by FIFA rankings, and these teams are behind only Mexico and the US

2) Pandering to how horrible Canada is where we can't even live up to smaller countries that people in Europe may not have even heard of.

(laughs) It's funny how analysts can make mountains out of molehills so fast, Scottie, hopefully you'll laugh alongside me when they do this. Like in that thread to Gerry and Craig...quit being so defeatist.

Wow nobody? I maybe thought that had happened when I didn't see a story on TSN/Sportsnet over the week but that's hard to understand for me.... is the CSA too hard up to pay for an extra plane ticket or something because surely having an extra body for cover would do no harm.

Especially when it's not uncommon to lose another player or two to a knock in a friendly like we have today. No brainer, really.

Perhaps they are waiting until after tonight's match? With Hutchinson out, maybe it will serve as a good opportunity for Pacheco and/or Piette to get an extended run the second half to see if they pass muster? Then depending on how that goes the SOS call to a veteran like Bernier could then be made? Just speculating (I'm not sure there is a deadline for calling up someone).

As I thought, Hainault in center, Edgar out wide. As I said earlier, this just makes way more sense in terms of how Canada likes to play...still not sure why people thought Edgar would be center, and Hainault out wide...Edgar just way better at ball handling moving up the pitch, despite that Hainault is playing (out of position, IMO) RB at Houston.
