I predict a quite Open game with both side going at it. Vancouver 2 - Toronto 1.........and Rmbr we play on aggregate

I also somehow have a feeling there might be an penalty somewhere are some players might be tense.

Now who will be the Starting Goalie for Whitecaps?

The more I see Henry and Morgan, the more I like them.

Johnson seems to be enjoying the V-Cup this year.

Henry has had an excellent match to my eye. Very good night for him and The Guz. MoTM and honourable mention in my books (choose one or the other for either praising. That close).

Some brief thoughts...

Is it just me or did TFC look like they had a really good last week on the training pitch? Winter has to be feeling a little better about things right now.

THAT was a damned good strike by Hassli. Would say TFC might be feeling a bit hard done by leaving Vancouver with a draw except for that strike. That right footer alone buys Vancouver a lot of grace. 1-1 doesn't seem so unfair after that. T.O. still pockets the away goal however.

Decent match with a nice finish. Nothing spectacular but wasn't expecting spectacular. Should be a fun finish by The Lakeside Wednesday next.

t.

I think that they have ditched any semblance of Aron Winter soccer with the possession game in favour of a route one direct game. I thinks its paying dividends. Better defensive structure and yes, Henry has really looked good lately. Especially in this tournamnent.

PS.: Shame on Craig McEwen for not asking Montagliani about the Canadian Quota?

^ Really? Saw some very mature (or at least organized) movement in possession out there.

Without the ball? Not so much. Downright "Ug" at times but thought they were pulling off the give-go-and support in a more than fair fashion. Bit of baiting happening too. That has to be a positive given the season performances (for TFC at least) so far.

Damn but you guys do not look like an 0-8-0 team. Very good showing and but for a great save by Cannon and yet another EPIC thunderfoot goal by Hassli you would be safely on your way. I feel lucky going back to Toronto at 1-1.

The officiating had it's good and bad moments but was clearly the best we've had so far in the V's Cup matches but still leaves a lot to be desired. I'll give this crew a 6/10 which is the first time I've gone above 4 this year.

Not a particularly dynamic central midfield trio of Thorrington, Davidson, and Watson out there IMO so I thought TFC's midfield grouping was more than effective. I thought Johnson had a really strong match and was rewarded with a goal: always looked a threat to make something happen and his excellent pass (I believe it was him?) to Soolsma should have ended up icing the tie in TFC's favour. Cannon's huge save may loom large come next week (though definitely eclipsed by Hassili's out-of-this-world strike, which looms far bigger at the moment!).

That was huge. If Cannon doesnt make that save, then it might been lights out, whitecaps would have needed to score a minimum of two goals next week and very possibly three goals.

Funny that during the half time Montagliani mention how this event has grown over the years. But i have been following it religiously every year and i and anyone else can tell that attendance has dropped significantly in each year. It used to sell out every game at all three venues. I use to keep all the game stats for this on a spreadsheet for the first three years and i recall that the first year (i think it was), the cumulative attendance was 100k. Not bad when you think about it.

I knew that when all the teams (except for edmnton of course) got into MLS, the attendance would drop. And it has unfortunately. This game was good, as were several others but there is no more of that tension and drama that tactics create when you have second division sides playing first division sides. Edmonton just isnt of the same level that the former USL sides used to be. Maybe that tells a lot about the effect that the USL/NASL break up or split has had on the game.

^Remember that Vancouver was getting large crowds at Swangard, meaning that the crowds weren't very large at all (relatively speaking, of course). The crowds at Empire and BC Place for this tournament are equal to three full Swangards for each match.

Henry has and is proving he's ready for a CMNT call-up in the same way Attakora and Peters did when they were still teens. Henry should be called-up to the WCQ.

You might not get arguments about Henry. But you wont find many here who agree that (when peters was called to the national team) Peters was ready or even warranted a call up by Frank Yallop. Even to this day, i still dont get why he was called at that age.
