BuzzAndSting
Having passed on Cuba because it didn't make sense for us coming from Ottawa, my girlfriend and I are 90% sure we're in for Panama. It makes more sense considering we are planning to be in Toronto on the 6th but haven't made travel plans. Trevor I assume it wouldn't be a problem to add a flight for $150 that leaves Ottawa on the Thursday and returns to Ottawa the following Wednesday? DontPanic
No problem to add on from Ottawa at all. If you are missing Cuba then Panama is for sure. If you are going to Cuba then Panama is for sure. Already 1/3 of the way to the minimum. Let me know if you are considering this so I can get the details out and locked down. I've talked to a couple people who've travelled through Central America and they all say Panama City is amazing, cosmopolitan, modern and at the same thing historic. And apparently English is very common.

maccaliam
Sweet! Let's go peeps! I've talked to a couple people who've travelled through Central America and they all say Panama City is amazing, cosmopolitan, modern and at the same thing historic. And apparently English is very common. I backpacked from Panama up to Guatemala a couple of years ago and Panama was one of my favourite places. If you can get out to the San Blas Islands I highly recommend it - they are amazing! I don't recall English being very prominent but the people were lovely and there were no significant issues that couldn't be resolved with a bit of patience. Chicken buses are a great way of getting around - between 50 cents and a dollar for pretty lengthy trips on an old Canadian/American yellow school bus with everything possible on it, including, not surprisingly, chickens. DontPanic
How much from Winnipeg ? Add on from Winnipeg will usually be about $120-170 depending on which airline. For the Cuba trip the Add-ons were YVR - $190 YWG - $130 I will release full details after Cuba/Honduras and then there will be a couple weeks window to put down fully refundable deposits (likely $150) Hope you can make it. Add-ons can be done from any gateway in Canada and will meet up with the group either in Toronto or maybe Miami (although USA can be avoided if needed). theaub
Would love to do this, but unfortunately I have a three day professional exam in September and the 11th happens to be the middle night. I will definitely consider Honduras once that goes up though.

JamboAl
I'm thinking about this but may depend on work. Just a quick question, Trevor, I have a whole whack load of Marriott Rewards points which I could use on the hotel in Panama. And just curious, is this the Copa Airlines direct flight from YYZ? And I thought the downtown east side was crawling with scummy Hondu crack dealers! (It is!). Yeah, I avoid the east side--Canada's poorest neighborhood--as much as possible, but it sounds like kindergarten compared to San Pedro Sula. hectorj
I have been to Panama three times including once with a 10 year old and an 8 year old. It is a safe country, fascinating and visually stunning. Panama City has its sketchy areas, but you can easily avoid them. I drove in PC and I don't recommend it. The traffic is horrific. If you are staying a week or so, go the Caribbean. San Blas, Isla Grande and Portobelo are awesome. The latter two are only two hours away. I wish I could go again.

Jason (forget the username) but from Lima gave a lot of insight about a potential Honduras trip. Might be useful talking to him DP.
