Saugan
Anyone else hear the Arash Madani interview with Peter Montopoli during the TFC/IMFC game? Apparently they're looking at a new format for next years tournament. Arash also tweeted... "CSA general secretary Peter Montopoli, says a format change to Cdn championships may happen next year, but did not reveal specifics." Any insiders have any idea what format they may be thinking? It would be nice if the winners of the PCSL, CSL and new Quebec League had a shot in the tourney somehow.
narduch
I wonder if they are thinking of added games? With CONCACAF decreasing the amount of games in the actual CCL tournament, that does leave some room to make the Voyageur's Cup a longer tournament. How to do that is anyone's guess though. Saugan
Just doing some quick brainstorming. I'm sure this has already been floated around by someone somewhere, but what about this format? Winners of PCSL, CSL and QPSL and a host team/city play in a CHL Memorial Cup style tourney. Winner and Runner up of this tournament qualify for the VCUP Quarterfinals and play the losers of the semi-finals from the previous year's VCUP. The winners of these quarterfinals advance to the semifinals where they play the finalists of the previous year's VCUP. Thoughts?
rdroze
I wonder if they are thinking of added games? With CONCACAF decreasing the amount of games in the actual CCL tournament, that does leave some room to make the Voyageur's Cup a longer tournament. According to CONCACAF, there will be fewer CCL games leading up to the quarterfinals, but the time period is still about the same. Last year, there was one week of CCL play in July, three weeks in August, three in September, and one in October. This year, there will be one week of CCL play in July, two weeks in August, two in September, and one in October. Note, however, that because they're using groups of three teams, each week one team from each group will not play. http://www.concacaf.com/page/CL/NewsDetail/0,,12813~2575174,00.html I still think they could make the Voyageurs Cup longer, but that might not be up to the CSA. Currently there's a two-month gap between the end of the Voyageurs Cup and the start of CCL, and the only reason I can conceive for that is that CONCACAF has some sort of early deadline for determining the CCL participants. Saugan
I predict single legged series. If fixture congestion becomes an issue, sure, why not.
Lord Bob
If fixture congestion becomes an issue, sure, why not. Need to keep room on the schedule free for those big European friendlies.
jpg75
I'd say back to the round robin format. It's only 2 more games (ie. 6 vs. 4) and it would give FCE an additional 2 home games against MLS competition.
