DJT
Guidelines for this thread In this thread post match updates on all Canadians abroad for May 4-10, 2012. If you find updates posted in some other thread or on the other Voyageurs forum then post them here as well, but be sure to credit the original poster. If there is news that is particularly significant (eg. someone scores a big goal, someone gets injured, etc.) then feel free to begin a new thread on that topic in order to draw greater attention or start a discussion, but also post that news here. Some comments on news posted in this thread are okay, but let's not let this thread go off into a long discussion. nolando
Haidar was on the bench for Nimes' 3-2 victory over 10-man Luzenac. Nimes are currently tied for 2nd in France's third-tier National League with three matches left to play.

sloth8
Jackson getting a start today vs Arsenal TSN2@ 7:45 ET Paul Lambert definitely loves mixing up the roster. After two weeks of not being named to the squad, Jackson starts against Arsenal!
canucklefan
EPL Arsenal 3 - 3 Norwich (Jackson) Simeon was subbed at 69'. He had 3 shots, making 1 shot on goal. The game was then 2 - 1 for Norwich. The guy who came in for Simeon, Seteve Morison, scored the last goal to make 3 - 3.

Jackson just missed a screaming low cross. Holt played off Jackson's run for his goal. All in all they looked good together - wonder if Hart would be thinking of OO and Simeon up front as a conventional Number 9 / Number 10, and then DeRo in behind as a playmaker? Oranje
-No Simpson in the lineup as Young Boys are currently leading Luzern 1-0 in the 35th minute -No Straith as Saarbrucken defeated Unterhaching 4-1 -Ledgerwood went 90 as Wiesbaden drew Babelsberg 2-2 - Munster defeated Offenbach 1-0 but I couldn’t find any lineups. Jonathan Bourgault should find out today if he was offered a new contract from Munster (http://www.scpreussen-muenster.de/news/björn-kluft-verlässt-die-preußen-–-weitere-personalentscheidungen-sind-gefallen)

Agree I thought Simeon played very well, his passing and runs were great and he used his pace well, it was very nice to see him step up vs such a big team and look so good. ditty
Kevin McKenna goes 90 mins in 1. FC Köln's 4-1 home loss to Bayern Munich. Combined with Hertha Berlin's 3-1 win at home vs TSG Hoffenheim means that Köln is officially relegated.

Like a few people mentioned, this was probably the best way for McKenna to ensure that he is a starting CB for the next year or two. Not a terrible thing for him personally despite what must be a disappointing day for the club and Big Kev.

Combined with Hertha Berlin's 3-1 win at home vs TSG Hoffenheim means that Köln is officially relegated. What a crazy end. This match was on Gol Tv by the way. Cologne was pretty safe clear until the very end when some smoke bombs, like i have never seen before, went off in the stadium. The referee had to end to end the game earlier than the 90th minute. Hertha berlin scored two late goals and that means relegation for Cologne and Kevin Mckenna. Pretty unfortunate for Cologne and big Kev. PS.: Cologne were down 4-1 at the time of the smoke bombs and flares. So its not like those incidents had any impact on the result.

Things didn't look good today almost from the off, as Hertha scored in the 14th minute and never relinquished their lead. Cologne is a well supported club, their average attendance this year is 47,000+, 8th highest in the BL. Personally I always find it a shame when team like this is relegated, sort of like Newcastle in the Prem a few years ago. Also I was hoping they'd meet Fortuna Düsseldorf in the playoff. That's a traditional derby that likely hasn't happened in years. McKenna has a contract through to 2013, though I'm not sure if there's a relegation clause that frees him up. Nonetheless, I agree with many here who see the BL 2 as more his level now.
zidane05
In Bundesliga 2, OO goes 90 minute for Greuther Furth on a 2-2 tie vs Hansa Rostok to win the Bundesliga 2 title and the B2 scoring title as well. Massive season for OO. http://www.kicker.de/news/fussball/2bundesliga/spieltag/2-bundesliga/2011-12/34/scorer-der-saison.html

Massive season for OO. http://www.kicker.de/news/fussball/2bundesliga/spieltag/2-bundesliga/2011-12/34/scorer-der-saison.html That's not an official title, though. However, he is also top goalscorer, although shared with two other players. Randy was on the bench for the last game of the season (3:1 vs. Ingolstadt). 3 players who will leave got their farewell game, so there was no room to sub him in. A bit unfortunate for him, since all the other young forwards got to play - and all three (the Korte brothers and Merkel) had good to very good games. I'm really looking forward to see the offense next season. Barsalona today scored his first goal for Eintracht's reserves, btw.
ditty
For the record, Rob Friend was a 77th minute sub for already promoted Eintracht Frankfurt in a 1-0 away loss to a likely more motivated Karlsruhe, who needed the win to avoid direct relegation and instead find themselves in the BL 2/BL 3 relegation playoff this week. So, Friend finds himself technically back in BL 1, though it's difficult for me to see Frankfurt retaining a striker who was a rarely used sub. Time will tell. Grizzly
Friend is on loan at Frankfurt (confirmed by Ed i believe from a German article on the deal). Who knows where he'll be next year, Hertha might not want him back... Hertha will be in a relegation playoff and changed coaches since Friend went to Frankfurt. Their new coach Rehhagel loves to have an offense with strong wingers feeding a target striker and is also well known for helping players restart their careers. Rehhagel 's contract is only to the end of the season though so no guarantee he will be there next year especially if they relegate. However, at the very least there should be a new coach at Hertha when Rob returns whether Rehhagel or someone else and hopefully a new chance for Rob at the club. Yes, I just read that Friend is under contract to Hertha 'til 2013. It will be interesting to see where Hertha find themselves after the playoff. It seems like almost 2 solid seasons now that Friend has found himself on the bench.
Alex_K
I'd say Rehhagel is unlikely even if Hertha stay up. The guy is in his mid-70s and had officially retired in 2010 already (he came back to help out his former club Hertha, but staying another whole season?). If you count the 9 assists, he is the leader scorer in points. Not just goals My point was more, that there is no actual title awarded to the leader by points - top goalscorer is much more prestigous. As far as assists go, kicker and the Bundesliga count those differently. The Bundesliga credits him with only six assists, which still has him as shared leader by points, though. Rehhagel has already stated he would be interested in a longer engagement with Hertha. Both he and the club were expecting a better finish to the season though at the time he made that statement so I do not know whether it still holds true, whether it would hold true in the case of relegation or whether Hertha wants him back in either scenario. However, his age is not a factor in Rehhagel's mind.
