U17 Camp in Italy this week?

Ya I don't read twitter much I just happened to search Marco Bustos on google, seems like you can read certain tweets depending on privacy settings of the user.

But anyways, how do we not know about this camp? You are putting resources into a camp and not informing supporters? Not very bright on their part. It seems they've been good in updating our youths lately (like the U18 camp in Costa Rica) so this is a little confusing.

I asked Marco Bustos on Twitter; the other Whitecaps at this camp are GK Marco Carducci, CB Alex Comsia, LB/LW Jordan Haynes.

Not always the best guys on the Residency U-16 team, I think, although all good ones. A few players who've been call-ups in the past aren't there, so I guess the staff is just trying to look at some new faces. To my knowledge, this is the first national team camp at this level for these guys.

I know Carducci was invovled in the Costa Rica camp for the U18s (which was in reality a U16 team)

I forgot all about that, actually. And come to think of it I can't swear on a Bible Haynes hasn't been in a camp either, since he only joined the Whitecaps earlier this year.

Interesting that only 4 vancouver, 1 TFC and no impact residency players....so 5 out of the 18 in total.

Canada m17 to participate in Torneo della Nazioni

Posted on 17 April 2012 in Men's U-17 Team

Canada's men's U-17 team will participate in the Torneo della Nazioni, an eight-team international tournament in Trieste, Italy from 25-29 April 2012. The tournament will feature two groups of four teams, with Canada facing Israel, Slovenia and Italy in the Group B matches from 25-27 April. Semi-final and final matches are 28 and 29 April, with Group B teams meeting Group A teams in the cross-over semi-final phase (Croatia, Finland, Mexico and Montenegro).

Canada's U-17 camp will run from 18-30 April, with the team commencing in Verona before transferring to Trieste on 24 April. In advance of the Torneo della Nazioni, Canada will face Mexico in a Men's U-17 International Friendly match on 21 April 2012.

Canadian U-17 coach Sean Fleming has selected 18 players for this particular camp and tournament, with all players born in 1996 or 1997. This marks the first project for the U-17 program, which will continue to build towards next year's 2013 CONCACAF Men's Under-17 Championship in Ciudad de Panama and La Chorrera, Panama.

"It is exciting to get this group together in our first development opportunity towards next year's CONCACAF Men's Under-17 Championship," said Fleming.

Of the 18 players selected, 14 of them have previous national youth team experience from 2011 or earlier. The four footballers new to the Canadian youth program are Billy Bitihene, Marco Bustos, Mikaël Cantave and Alex Comsia.

Just last week, CONCACAF announced that the 2013 CONCACAF Men's Under-17 Championship will run 6-19 April 2013 at the Estadio Rommel Fernández and Estadio Agustin Muquita Sánchez. The 12-team tournament will qualify four teams for the FIFA U-17 World Cup UAE 2013.

If this is '96 only, then that's about right from a Caps perspective if you consider minutes with the U-16 team. The only possible omissions would be Matthew Chow, who's been coming on of late from what I've gathered from match reports, and Elijah Adekugbe, who has played a fair bit (though not sure how well).

What about Ali Musse? Reports on him from that U18 camp in Costa Rica were good and I thought he was a '96.

For some reason i thought Kianz Gonzales-Froese was a goalie? Also, Mainz is in Germany and i am questioning whether he has a Euro passport to have officially signed with them. I will also look into Bitihene and Cantave for the MOACA...

edit: Froese is not listed with Mainz U17 or U19

Bitihene definitely with Brescia!

Miki Cantave has been at Nantes since Fall of 2010 and was one of the top players on their U15 team last season and included in the French U16 tryout process (hundreds of kids get screened). He would now be a U17.

"Miki Cantave In the mix for the France U16 National Team

Once again, our Plus 20 Alumnus Miki Cantave has shown that persistence, passion and hard work combined can be a lethal weapon on the football pitch. Miki is quickly becoming a sought after player in France after adjusting quickly to the pace and technical level of play at FC Nantes.

Miki has started and played every game so far for FC Nantes and is now the second leading scorer for the team with 7 goals and leads the team in assists. Miki isn't just another player in the line up, he's been given the designation of taking all the free kicks and corner kicks. Since arriving in Nantes, he has been an impact player for the squad and has played a major role in the success of the team thus far.

After a blazing start in his first two months in France, Mike was identified as on of 11 players from FC Nantes who was invited by the French Football Federation to the tryout process for the France U16 National Team. The trial process started in October and continues to narrow down as there are only 5 players from FC Nantes still left including Miki.

The team is sitting in first place at the mid season break. To follow the team, you can click on the link http://www.fcnantes.com/articles/article2809.php?num=3614

Players in Ottawa can learn a very important message from Miki's youth career as he is an example of a player who never took his eyes off the dream. This is a kid who was on the bench on the U-14 for team Ontario last year and was considered to be a second string player. However, he never let the set back of cracking the first team line up with the provincial team get to him. His persistence paid off and is now looking to fill the shoes of former French greats such as Michel Platini, Zinedine Zidane and Thierry Henry.

Miki is a native of Ottawa and was a part of Parmar programs since he was nine years old and an exemplary student in our Plus 20 Program. Miki was developed under the tutelage of Capital United Soccer Club and stayed loyal to them through his full youth career."

I'm not sure how accurate these stats are, but the USSDA doesn't have any appearances for Musse:

He's also listed on the WSA Winnipeg site as a '94?

EDIT: Looks like he played back in November:

Ali Musse got homesick and went back to Winnipeg around Christmas. He's on the WSA Winnipeg roster for the 2012 USL PDL season.

Excellent player while he was here, though; certainly the best of the '96s.

EDIT: According to my statistics Musse played 770 minutes at USSDA U-16 before leaving, scoring three goals (one on September 17, two on October 22). His last game was 80 minutes against the Seattle Sounders on December 17.

As someone familiar with the Winnipeg Soccer scene, a few people were surprised to see Ali Musse make the Whitecaps Residence Program as a 96 as he has played most of his youth soccer for WSE as a 94 playing one year up with the 93 year group. He is currently in grade 12 at Glenlawn Collegiate enroled in the RTC program
