Grizzly Posted April 9, 2012 Share Posted April 9, 2012 Sportsnet’s Gerry Dobson Honoured With Brian Budd Award Posted on April 5th, 2012 by Administrator 2012 Recipient – Gerry Dobson Gerry Dobson graduated from Centennial College in 1981 with a diploma in Radio and Television Programming. He worked at Global Television in the early 1980’s as a beat reporter for the Toronto Blizzard of the old NASL. Gerry moved on to CFTO TV where he covered a variety of sports from 1984 until 1997. Gerry Dobson plays an active role in the soccer community assisting with many organizations often taking on the task of Master of Ceremonies as well as guest lecturing at local colleges. Gerry actively works with the Canadian Soccer Association, The Ontario Soccer Association, professional clubs and grass roots soccer organizations to help promote the game of soccer in Canada. Throughout his industrious media career, Gerry has covered 5 Olympic games, the World Series, the Superbowl, Rogers Cup tennis, the Grey Cup and CONCACAF, to name a few. Gerry has been quoted as saying, “Sports is the ultimate reality television show, and with the exploding growth of soccer, the best is yet to come”. Gerry Dobson will be presented with the Brian Budd Award at the upcoming Soccer Hall of Fame Induction Banquet on June 2, 2012 at the Fairmont Royal York, Toronto. The Brian Budd Award of Distinction The Brian Budd Award, sponsored by Kitchen Designers Plus, was developed to recognize outstanding individuals who have excelled both in soccer and in another endeavour but who might not otherwise qualify for induction into The Soccer Hall of Fame. The candidate must exemplify good character, show outstanding dedication, achievements and leadership in developing soccer in Canada and provide inspiration to past, present and future generations. He worked hard to get as much Canadian soccer content on TV, and definitely has helped soccer grow while other networks and media has purposely neglected us.
