Sam
How will we match up against what is by far our toughest opponent of the group? I'm predicting a 3-0 loss.
Keegan
3-1 loss, Sodade with the lone goal... tough to see us getting anything here. I'm expecting a pathetic 10 men behind the ball and balls hoofed up to the lone man to chase all game... think Canada @ Mexico in 2008. But I'm hoping for a counter attack style with 3 quick players up front, obviously you want a guy who can hold up the ball if needed that would be Sodade for me. Let Henry mark Shea as he has done in the past on our right flank, move Stinson and Teibert to their natural positions. Hope Fresenga can play left back and that Teibert can handle the crossing... hmmmm some guy on Toronto would have been nice there. -----------------Sodade--------------------- Teibert-------------------------Edwini-Bonsu ------------------Bekker--------------------- ----------Stinson-------Saiko---------------- Fresenga---Beckie-----Attakora-----Henry -----------------Misciewicz----------------- If we had Morgan I'd be a lot more confident but lets see what Fresenga can do
Grizzly
^^ I can't even remember one game in the last decade on the male side at any level in which we played a real counterattack. It has always been this 10 behind the ball and hope for one lucky long pass to a lone striker as opposed to actually putting some offensive pressure on the opponent. A lot of this can be blamed on the poor coaching for the last decade. In fact, I think we have had pretty much two tactics in the last decade. The above mentioned against stronger teams and the other tactic being our short passing, possession game where we pass it around the back and have a great deal of difficulty penetrating the last third of the field against any half decent opposition. And for many years whenever we played the 2nd style many here thought that we were progressing tactically because we were keeping the ball on the ground, passing and maintaining possession though I think it is now clear after years of failure that this was not in any way a good or progressive strategy. youllneverwalkalone
This US squad doesn't strike me a the juggernaut people seem to be implying. They have experienced keepers, but from the looks of things this is the least of our worries. They have a backline that averages about 20 MLS matches and 22 years of age. If you assume Stinson and Teibert are fullbacks, then we're right there with them given Nana's experience. Adu is the most overrated player ever and the Danish kid looks ok. Otherwise, they come down to Brek Shea, Agudelo and that Mexican. We seemingly can't match that fire power, but maybe we can grind out another draw. I would think about putting Henry at RB and moving Stinson into Bekker place. Teibert, I think, can play LB. He won't be great defensively, but neither are the US fullbacks. Both are young and relatively inexperienced.

Hopefully they figure it out because this team isn't deep defensively and for once we actually seem to have depth in attacking positions. If we can't score goals (or even create chances!) with the players available at this level it has to be a management problem, no doubt. Teibert and Edwini-Bonsu are two of the most skilled young attackers we've had in a while and should have been unleashed on our top rival (in this group). Yet we pussied out and tried to let our offense be run through a hopeless lone striker with 2 supplemental draft picks on the wings. GROW A PAIR FFS. But we simply do not have the type of players to break teams down in the final third. Nor have we produced this kind of player, as evidenced by this team so far. Back to the USA game though... I am going to go with 4-0... the amount of pro experience and preparation that team his scares me. 4-0 is actually perhaps unrealistic...perhaps we are looking at 5-0 or 6-0. Is there any reason to think we are better than Cuba? At least they have trained for more than a week before the tournament, and likely gave the USA more of a physical challenge than they should expect from us. Why are our coaches so fixated on this?
Joe Keeper
This is what I would like to see tommorow. I doubt we will see anything close but here goes. 4-4-2 ----------------Misiewicz---------------- Fresenga---Attakora---Stinson---Henry -----------------Alderson--------------- --Saiko--------------------------Teibert --------------Edwini Bonsu------------- -------Haber--------------Sodade------ Is there any way we could play a 3-5-2? jpg75
^ Joe, with the personnel we have for this tourny, going with 3 at the back would actually seem like the smart thing to do. Unfortunately Fonseca and Hart are married to their "system" and deviation is not tolerated.
Keegan
3 at the back would be a recipe for disaster imo
jpg75
3 at the back would be a recipe for disaster imo Against the States it would be almost like adding a defender. The FB's would be more like wingbacks and we would have 7 back when defending... Against USA: (3-4-1-2) -----------------Misiwiecz----------------- ----Fresenga-----Nana-------Beckie----- Davies----Alderson---Bekker----Teibert -------------------Saiko------------------- ---------Sodade-----------REB----------- Against Cuba: (3-2-3-2) -----------------Misiwiecz----------------- ----Fresenga-----Nana-------Henry------ -------------Stinson--Piette-------------- REB---------------Saiko-----------Teibert ----------Haber------------Sodade------- ...and then go with wingers against Cuba. I don't like looking at that d-mid combo for Cuba , but with the 3 games in 5 nights that's asking alot of your players.
Guest soccer1
After watching the quality of the attacking US players in the USA v. Cuba's game,Canada had better add another sweeper and play 4:1:4:1 if they want to even stay in the game...
Scottie
What is great is that all are saying we need a "midfield 'general'...",someone who can hold the ball and release it etc...Well we don't Have that and it is called...Andrew Kliment...Keep on the sh.t CSA it will cause you another tourney... I couldn't judge how good USA is because they played with a man advantage practically the whole game. Still, I may need to take an aspirin at some point in the game. Look at it this way, SLV had a man advantage half the game 4-0.. USA had it almost all game 6-0 ...

On the plus side that's a suspension for the match against us and with any luck we'll add a few defections to that number.

Cuba screwed us in the Gold Cup, because of goal differential, and now they seem to be doing it again! With our luck, they will buckle down for their first WCQ match ... tmcmurph
Here is hoping our keeper has another of his great games! I want some speed up top. REB is a forward so play him there. Put on some other speedster to go with him either as a forward or attacking mid. Go Canada!!
