First impression of Vancouver - good luck in the playoffs.

Okay, that might be a bit premature, but they do look solid in this game.

They looked good today, but they also looked good on opening day last year and we all know what happened after that. Still, they should be much improvided this year.

Have to say that was a lot better than most of last season. We had more experience and more maturity all over the pitch. Suspect our back line is a bit static and our keeper is nothing special, but the midfield is less experimental for sure.

As for Impact, they are not a weak team, I am sure they'll get their wins this year.

Thing is, last year we relied on being epic and gave up goals against, gave them up easily. Now we have not been scored on by an MLS team in the preseason and here, so having a sparky attack will mean more this year. I think last year's opener was a lot of adrenalin, this year it felt a lot different.

Good crowd and good atmosphere, congrats to all fans there this afternoon.

Good match, Montreal looked ok but still got some teething problems to work out. Seem a bit unorgranized at times, almost as if they forget the formation they are in and just run around like 5 year olds. But hey it will come in time. Vancouver look much improved but only time will tell if its a one off or not

Montreal Impact Player Reviews.

Donovan Ricketts: The two goals he conceded were the result of defensive errors. Made his best save off Alain Rochat late in the second half, by getting a finger on the ball and deflecting it off the post. 6

Jeb Brovsky: Brovsky is still getting accustomed to the right full back position, and Vancouver Whitecaps fully exploited that. Most of the action took place down the right side. Brovsky's knees buckled, but he didn't go down playing the full 90. He also brought very little offensively, preferring to go back to his keeper, instead of forward. Hope to see Zarek Valentin next game. 5

Matteo Ferrari: Looked solid for most of the game, but paid the ultimate price when he slipped up on the turf, and was punished by Camilo. Did a first rate job on Hasili, kept the big man in check by keeping him honest. 6.5

Tyson Wahl: Was caught off guard by Hasili's flick that led to the first goal by Le Toux. Wahl who is in for injured Nelson Rivas, is seemingly more comfortable as a left full back. He seemed overwhelmed at times, preferring to just clear the ball down field wasting possession. 5

Josh Gardner: Very comfortable with the ball, he rarely made bad passing decisions, and was always open as a passing option. Clicked well with Justin Mapp on the left flank. 6

Davy Arnaud: Ran kilometers yesterday, and was involved in most of Montreal's scoring opportunities. Excellent choice for captain, as he has an exceptional work rate. Made a few errant passes, which just killed momentum at times. 7

Patrice Bernier: Bernier didn't play poorly, but is capable of much more. Showed his experience by committing 'professional fouls'' to slow the opposition at times. 6

Felipe Martins: First game in the MLS for the young 21 year old Brazilian product, and he got sloppy at times. Has to learn to rely on veterans like Bernier and Arnaud. He was incredible when he did that in pre season against Houston. Still believe he will be a good player for this club. 6

Justin Mapp: Mapp missed a few weeks of camp for personal reasons, and it showed in the beginning of the match. He settled down, and began creating scoring opportunities. Experienced player who is very comfortable with ball, should get better has gets fitter. 6.5

Sanna Nyassi: Man of the match for IMFC. Very dangerous because of his pace, but struggles in the finishing department. He would benefit by playing with a better target man, as he was trying to go at the Vancouver Defense by himself at times. Might be better suited has a winger, if the club was better equipped at the striker position. 7.5

Justin Braun: Could score goals tallying 17 in the last two seasons combined. The problem is that he doesn't have a suitable partner at this point. He is not the type of striker who is capable of creating scoring opportunities by himself. He is at his best, when he could sneak up and prounce on loose balls.6

@soccerpro: "They looked good today, but they also looked good on opening day last year and we all know what happened after that. Still, they should be much improvided this year."

Exactly what I said to my dad. Then followed it up with "if they get a result away at Chivas next week they just might be on to something - but Chivas is apparently terrible so maybe not!"....

Whitecaps beat Impact because Ferrari and Brovsky were horrid. No surprise re: Brovsky. Ferrari looks like he is taking a final pay cheque....or he really didn't think MLS would be this good! I bet he underestimated the level of play (probably based on the poor level of forwards Impact have).

Impact need a forward. They needed Eddie Johnson! But he probably refused to play for them. They also need a RB and they need Rivas to get healthy or sign a top CB to replace him ASAP. THey have loads of "needs" just like Whitecaps had last year. Will be a long year for Impact....unfortunately. Maybe Phil Davies can get a contract with them then if they struggle??

Irritatingly true. Doubly annoying considering the fantastic shape he keeps himself in.

Maybe he works himself too hard? I know last year the injury that kept him out most was a freak thing so at least it's not going to be recurring.

Really impressed by the combination of Camilo, Le Toux and Hassli it would be nice to see Teibert take one of those spots though. Bernier looked pretty lackadaisical and passive at times, not sure if he was playing with a bit of a knock or just tired. He can definitely improve but he wasn't bad either. Nyassi was really impressive, wasn't sure about the pick earlier but he was great last night.

Pleasantly surprised as an Impact fan. They threatened the goal last night probably as many times as I thought they were going to in all the games until July. In other words, like 4 times.

Some of the time they looked a little lost, like as if - gasp - they were a bunch of guys just getting to know eachother.

Bernier looked very good, as did Ferrari even if he got turned around by the nice individual effort by Camillo.

I hope Camara and Sebrango can be among those who benefit on Saturday from a couple of underwhelming performances by their counterparts who played last night, by getting some minutes.

The issue of team chemistry seems very real to me and thats to be expected when throw eleven guys out there who have never played together. I noticed that when you dont have team chemistry you are bound to have Defensive gaffes because communication is poor.

That said, in MLS, a team should never be judged until they have played a home game. More than any other league that i can think of, this leaugue where the home sides has much bigger advantage than the away sides.

@Keano - Ferrari was terrible. And coming from a guy with the nickname, Keano, this is a particularly surprising assessment on your part. If anyone was lax it was Ferrari not Bernier. Wow....Ferrari, I think, will get much much better, and likely was understimating the level of MLS forwards. Probably based on the level of attacker Montreal puts him against in training.

Impact just need time to gel as a team, there are 11 pretty good players out there but not a 'team' if you know what I mean. WC didn't outplay them really, not a 'great' game by any means though...

Bernier was freaking awesome!

Good to see a lot of viewers.
