That's definitely true. Sorry, was just venting initial feelings.

It may be me who was premature. No mention of CCFC withdrawing in this article, but the crest has already been removed from the banner at the top. Also, doesn't sound like a second Québec club is happening, after all, since they don't mention one. I mean, further expansion outside of Ontario would be a big enough deal to promote it loudly, right?

Yup. Ah well, I guess CSL has in interesting year coming up. I find its very difficult to get news and info on them. I'm guessing lots has been going behind-the-scenes in the last couple of months, yet not much more than weak rumours being made public.

No disrespect to dobar dan, who was no doubt relaying what he had been told by an insider, but that always seemed a bit far-fetched to me with the new Quebec league starting up:

What they do mention is a new Canada Cup (albeit Ontario - Quebec) presumably involving the teams from that league so maybe somebody misunderstood what that was all about. Beyond that what people maybe should bear in mind about CCFC was that the owner originally wanted to run a D2 level team but lost out in that regard in expansion rights terms to the group associated with the new CFL team. With the NASL team now looking certain to emerge he maybe lost interest because he was only interested in running the top team in status terms in that particular city.

Source of Article Posted Below:

A record 16 teams will form the Canadian Soccer League first division for the upcoming 2012 season, with 13 of last season’s teams returning, to be joined by three new teams from last year’s Division Two.

Capital City of Ottawa failed to renew its league membership for the upcoming campaign, which will get underway the weekend of May 5 and conclude at the end of October. Each team will play 22 games during the regular season.

The traditional post-season playoffs or a season-long cup competition will be decided at a league meeting at Waterloo, Ontario Saturday, April 14.

The three new teams entering the first division for the first time are Kingston FC which entered the CSL as Prospect FC, Niagara United, and SC Waterloo Region, formerly known as KW United FC.

Toronto Croatia won the CSL title last year, defeating Capital City by a 1-0 score in the 2011season finale played at Centennial Stadium in Toronto on October 29, the lone goal scored by Croatia midfielder Hayden Fitzwilliams.

The CSL will field 14 teams in its second division, all reserve teams of players mostly under 23 of age. With emphasis on developing the younger players, the league rule allows for a maximum three players and the goalkeeper to be over 23.

A pre-season press conference is planned for early May.

The teams are:

Brampton City Utd

Brantford Galaxy

Kingston FC

London City

Mississauga Eagles FC

SC Waterloo Region

Serbian White Eagles

St. Catharines Roma Wolves

I love that CCFC stated in their presser that they left "because of concerns with the league’s vision moving forward." Whereas The CSL release said they failed to renew their membership. You have to love PR folks.

It's nice to see other regions come into a province wide (plus the Quebec team) league in order to give local talent a chance to travel and play, though, like many people, I'm eagerly awaiting news on the new D3 Ontario league. I notice Quebec is putting a bit of info out there about their new league so this should be an interesting year in the semi-pro level.

I believe that both of those explanations are correct, but the biggest reason for CCFC dropping has to be financial. The cost of travel for that team had to have been pretty high in comparison to other teams. They would have need over 1000 PAYING customers per game to come close to break even point.

I think that you can probably forget about the new D3 league in Ontario. There aren't that many people willing to lose a good amount of money on something that would be in comparison to an OSL level league, except you'd need to pay these players.

^ I will disagree with you on all accounts. I don't think for a second someone like Neil Maholtra is going to be bothered by financial issues for a league like the CSL. Although travel costs for them may be higher they most certainly planned well in advance for that. They drew more than most teams in the league on a consistent basis. In an fundamental expenditure comparison I would say that their travel costs are negated by lets say looking at a couple of GTA teams where they have maybe 10-20 people per game at let's say $10 a ticket, that equals about $100-$250 a game. That doesn't even cover the permit for the field let alone the players and staff wages.

I also hear the D3 league is starting up in 2013 and appears to be progressing slowly, but surely.

...it's a CSL club's schedule being posted in a CSL 2012 season thread. Why would it have any info on the 2013 season for a different league?

j.i.m. brought up the fact that he has heard "the D3 league is starting up in 2013 and appears to be progressing slowly, but surely", and then it was him yet again who said that a 2012 season schedule link would give info on another league playing in a different year.

I just thought it was interesting that j.i.m. has supposedly heard L1O is progressing and wanted to hear where he had heard that bc I'm interested in both leagues.

Yes I have heard that the new league will launch by 2013 from a few folks involved with the project but like most we need to see it launch.

After shooting the breeze with one league official, apparently the CSL will apparently have a slightly different format this year. We would see a regular season championship along with a group stage cup competition (4 x 4) later in the season which will determine playoff spots. Sounds a bit strange but we'll see how it pans out. I personally like the Top 8 make it format as it made for an interesting final 2 weeks and opening rounds (see Shooters vs SC Toronto at Lamport - still greatest CSL game ever played).

I'm just curious to see when a schedule is actually posted.

The CSL twitter account went MIA about a month and a half ago, emails to the CSL contact email have gone unanswered for a week and change now.

So... no real difference from before I guess.

I have the schedule but have been asked not to post the entire thing until the presser. However I will say that the first game will be hosted by Kingston and they'll host TFC Academy at Richardson.

The cup competition will start at the end of August and the groups - and concept - seem pretty cool (sorry I can't post that as I need to keep my word).

Also, Rogers will be doing Toronto broadcasts on Fridays and Saturdays but they will now be aired on Sundays at 8pm. The first match they will show will be SC Toronto vs St Cats from May 11th (shown the 13th). Playoffs will start in the 2nd weekend of October with the final finishing on the 27/28th (not sure if it is a 2 leg final though which would be strange, maybe waiting for the city of TO's okay on the final date).
