Why is it that teams always press us but we never press the opposition?

We tried a bit, and Armenia proved they could play it out and get a good offensive thrust. We can't -never have been able to - play it out consistently against the press, and turn the ball over as often as not. Until we can prove that we can play it out and gain advantage from it, teams will press us.

Canada's old problems are still their new problems. The central midfield is bad in its own half and doesn't link up well on the attack. Our striker is isolated. We're reacting to pressure with complete disorientation while giving the opponents, particularly in the middle third, far too much time to play. De Guzman and Ledgerwood are consistently chasing the ball, although at least De Guzman is making up for it with some nice tackles. This is one of Ledgerwood's ghastlier games.

They have trouble creating space... it's very evident in this game because Armenia, when they are in Canada's half, make space easily..

...and this is why we look awesome sometimes (like in friendlies or against weaker opponents) and other times we wilt. A good team that does their homework on us will know thatif they press our players they are not confident enough on the ball and that their teammates will shy away from getting into open space and demanding the ball when the opponent is pressing (like none of our players want to be the guy responsible for turning the ball over). That's why we always look like we don't know what we want to do with the ball because there's rarely a player in a positive position open and the teammates on the same "level" are shying away from wanting it, so we pass it back and back again and hoof it up as a 50/50 ball more often than not.
