Sorry to disagree Keegan but I think a flash game would be lame (and not be worth the money it would cost to make).

They've started making Youtube videos which is good and you can link to them right from the front page; it's one of the few things that has actually gotten better with the new site.

The flash game isn't for us Vees. Of course it would be lame to us but we need to look out for the next generation. You can bet that these kids are playing with Italy/Germany/England on their PS3 once they get off the pitch or home from school. We need to get OUR players in their head, sure most of us here grew up pretending to be Mitchell, Lenarduzzi, Forrest, De Rosario or whoever but you need to understand that the most played sport by youths in this country is soccer and 99% of them can't name a player on our national team. That isn't going to change with a profile page.

I'm not talking an expensive game, take a game that's already been made and just change the kits and numbers.

Also, see if someone can get on the phone to or even walk over to damn EA Sports CANADA and put our god damn national team in their game. That would be a massive step FFS.

^Amen to that.

My introduction to the CMNT was through FIFA World Cup 2006, you can't expect people to support the national team if they know nothing about it. There's no better way than video games to appeal to younger demographics.

How the CSA doesn't realize this is beyond me. Even if they had to pay EA, it would benefit the MNT's exposure more than ANYTHING you could ever do to the website or any lame ass "True Patriot Love" campaign. New Zealand and Finland are in the game and the country that it is made in isn't! The CSA has no grasp on what the modern football fan is. Many people in this country get into the sport through EA's game, it's the truth.. they then start watching the Champions League and soccer saturdays, partly because those are the teams they are playing with. Many don't even know our national team EXISTS, how pathetic is that. Take it from a university student, EVERYONE plays FIFA.. it's probably more popular than the NHL games that many canucks, myself included, grew up with religiously.

Agreed 100%.

Just having Canada in the FIFA series would do wonders for familiarizing young Canadian gamers with our players.

In '98 I had never seen Canada play, didn't know we had even been in the World Cup, didn't know who our players were etc. I had followed the failed WCQ campaign through Taylor's updates in Sun Media once a month. Then I got World Cup '98, and played it like it was my cocaine. Who was I every ****ing World Cup tournament? CANADA, of course. I learned about Forrest, Radzinski, Pesch, and Corazzin, and of course my star alter ego who lit it up for Canada in the Stade de France. He didn't play for ****ing England or Holland or Argentina. Sorry but it's such a great point and says so much about why the public has no idea who our players are and what we could accomplish as a soccer nation that it gets me fired up. Carry on.

Was literally laughed at by the people that run that project in a meeting at EA in Vancouver ages ago.

Never bought an EA product since, never will.

Update on the CSA site.

Essentially Telus destroyed their server while transferring, and had no backup.

This happened late last year. They were then gearing up for the WOQ, and will restore the info as soon as possible.

They are very unhappy with what happened.

Stats, team info, mini sites ect... will all be back.

To be fair, ages ago I don't think we were a side that had the players to be in a game. Now with basically every player in the game there's no excuse for us to not be in it. Also, EA has probably opened up to the game here a lot more since their partnership with Vancouver.

Not saying they are right, they are clearly euro snobs. I just think in the last 10 years those snobs have opened up a bit more to the north american game and with 3 Canadian teams set to be in their next game (as opposed to none 10 years ago) now would be a good time to put Canada in, especially if we have players on Villareal, PSV and in the EPL.

Me too! Bunbury was a beast in that game!

The CSA had no backups and redundancy! I rest my case.

Not really.

The CSA has all the data backed up, hence they are rebuilding it into the site. The 'professional' company they hired to manage their website, which killed it, didn't. They certainly were supposed to.

I don't even know how you would check if your server company is even backing up the data. I am assuming, since it's part of what I pay for with this server, that they are doing it. Maybe if you dig into the log files you can find some cron job or something that tells you if its happening.

It's pretty amazing a 'tier 1' or whatever you call it company could botch something that bad for a national organization.

Thankfully the CSA do have backups, but it needs to be formatted to fit the site, so all our nerd soccer data will be back for us to relish in.

  • 5 months later...

I don't know when we can expect for the CSA site to have all match and player data back up on its site, but if you're like me you still miss it.

I like looking at old match data for the purposes of posting here and on my own blog. For that reason I've been putting together links to match reports for all Canada matches this millennium, but so far I've only made it to the beginning of 2008. (In a few instances I had to reconstruct lineups from partial reports, match threads here, blog posts, etc.)

I posted about it here

http://oot-football.blogspot.ca/2012/07/crowd-sourcing-canadian-match-data.html

Here is the Google Docs spreadsheet with match info and links to the reports:

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0Apwmnaq--Q4IdGpuNndFVlVVVGVPZFNIbC1Dd250M3c

It can be edited by anyone (opening myself up for trouble, maybe, but I have a backup) so feel free to work with me on it
