Question on Canadasoccer.com

Is the canadasoccer.com website in a state of flux? I can't seem to get any details on players, games etc. Get "server error" on almost any selection. Just switched recently to using Chrome as my browser if that is relevant.

Same thing for me, nothing seems to work on the CSA website. It's been frustrating since the players stats were pretty good in the old site and easy to search.

Actually the even older site while visually bad was a treasure trove of game reports etc. Those seemed to disappear entirely a couple of years ago and were replaced by the gametracker stats which are cumbersome to go through. Anyway, glad to hear I am not missing out due to some technical error on my part.

The site has undergone a few changes in the last few years but it is only the most recent one, a few months ago, that has completely obliterated all the match reports and player data. I hope the database is not gone, but merely that there is some error preventing it from being accessed correctly.

Still, it's something they're hopefully aware of and the amount of time it's not been working is unacceptable.

Its now a terrible site. I dont know what happened but its seem like what is supposed to be an upgrade is turning out to look like a downgrade. I can sometimes understand organizations wanting to upgrade their website but sometimes its gets rediculous and turns out to be a change for sake of change. Its not a better site now than it was before, it harder navigate around and find what your looking for. News releases are not readily apparent, obvious or standout. I was looking for an old news release last week of the players invited to the Olympic camp. But i couldnt find it. Before, all you had to do was scroll down to the date or approximate date of the release.

I dont know what the CSA was thinking on this one. I can see changing if you introduce new features and technologies but if we were to go from a site like the current one over to what it was before, we would hail the massive improvements.

I have to giggle a bit at cramming all the sponsors down at the bottom of the homepage. That's a no-no. Edit: actually now that I look at a few other teams pages it seems pretty standard. Little different for NPO's I suppose.

I think the splash page is actually an improvement from what they used to have, but it appears they don't have the necessary content backing it up.

Meeting CSA today.

Can you make a concrete list here of stuff, ASAP, than I can pass on?

(A list, not a rant)

Stuff that doesn't work, missing ect... not I hate that font.

Thanks,

JM

1) Content layout is poor. There should be from the home page: menu bars above or left hand navigations bars/links to all all the major key topics that a typical user of the site will want to access.

2). Allow me/user to go back for a few months to view press releases without being forced to use the filters.

Edit: I just noticed one thing. It is actaully better now that i am using Safari as browser. Earlier i was using Explorer and contents would not appear.

-When you click at the top to switch to "francais", all the news blurbs are still in English. Other parts of the site are not fully translated yet, including the store.

http://csa.rmpathletic.com/fr

-There used to be a place where you could find an archive of all passed games played by the MNT(and I suppose for the other teams as well) and you could also find on the same page all upcoming games, I cannot find it anymore.

If you click on "teams", "MNT", "Schedules and results" it leads you nowhere.

-Sometimes the french glitches so that "É" becomes "É"

Technically not website stuff but:

-The CSA scarf is sold out. They probably should restock before June; it would also be good policy to have one in French although I'm not sure what should replace "True North Strong and Free". The equivalent line in the national anthem "Car ton bras sait porter l'épée" sounds warrior-like and bad-ass.

Also not website, but could you see if the CSA could make use of the facilities at BMO to get names and numbers put on the back of the kits?

Player pools for the various nat teams (used to exist)

Caps list (also used to exist although may have been incorpoated into another document

Game capsules for past games, never looked at the other National teams, but the men had a pretty comprehensive list previously.

Media releases - as Free Kick points out - more readily findable.

Why should you do the work that the CSA should be doing by themselves. They have the staff for it and paid staff on top of it!

I'm fairly positive he's not going to be "doing the work."

There's no hasrm in passing along some recommendations.

I think Gordon has it captured pretty much. Basically, most of the options under the 'TEAMS' tab on the front page lead you nowhere. Used to have player bios, matches, caps, etc for all the various NT's, but the links largely lead nowhere (MNT) or to just a set of jpegs (U20 Men). Looks like someone released the thing while it was still a work in progress.

Because they will listen to constructive feedback.

Someone has to get paid to do this stuff. They are for all intents and purposes doing it for us, why not help them?

They need to key in on a video section, I can't stress that enough. For a young person who follows Man Utd or Barca looking to get into Canada Soccer they don't want to look at lame stats and facts about some player they've never heard of, they want to see clips of the boys in action. Excite the people. Maybe a little flash game where you can be De Rosario, Jackson or Hutchinson and just kick balls past a keeper. Brand the product.

Good advice and definitely the way the world is going.

I will sum up the stuff in this thread and pass it on.

Things like this will be operations stuff way closer to game day.

Today will likely be about ticketing and if they have any plans on the membership stuff and what it might mean.

Sorry to disagree Keegan but I think a flash game would be lame (and not be worth the money it would cost to make).

They've started making Youtube videos which is good and you can link to them right from the front page; it's one of the few things that has actually gotten better with the new site.
