Impressive scoring record for a defender but how is he defensively? Right now if theres a Canadian-Portuguese player to persuade to join us it should be Ricardo Ferreira who lately been called up to Ac Milans first team.

I have never heard of this guy mentioned before, care to elaborate?

He has played for Portugal at the U17, U18, and U19 levels, but his last international apperance was in 2010. He only has 4 U19 appearnces which may mean he is a fringe player, BUT that may mean nothing as he is training with AC Milans first team (apparently). I don't know if he would be interested in us but it wouldn't hurt for Hart and Fonseca to contact him (Isn't Fonseca portugese himself?). He was born in Mississaisauga and is 19 years old, and is 1.9 m tall (what is that, 6'1 maybe?).

Wow, thanks. I am shocked to have never even heard of this player before, and he is Canadian born and all. Sigh, so another lost I'm assuming? :(

But would he accept? He may have been the 3rd player from that news story a few months agoo about Hart talking to 3 potential Canada players, with the other two assumed to be JDG2 and Hoilett

Before everyone loses their **** over Ferreira, he was called up to sit on the bench for one league game back on Oct 15th against Palermo. A number of young players were actually called up earlier in the year to sit on the bench, this seems to have tailed off over the last couple of months though.

During pre-season camp I went on the AC Milan fan boards to see what they were saying and the consensus was that he was about 7th or 8th on the CB depth chart. I saw an extended highlight pack of Milan crushing a Serie D side 9-0 or something like that and Ferreira looked competent in that video. He looks to be a good prospect, however his training with the 1st team is actually pretty routine for the older Primavera players since there are no reserves in Italy.

Lastly, he was eligible for both the U20's in 2011 and the more prestiguous UEFA U19 squad and was selected for neither.

edit: Correction, the current UEFA U19 cycle is for 2012 and '93 is the cut off birthdate so Ferreira is too old for this cycle. Anyways, he was not selected for the U20's - who were finalists (lost to Brasil) in Colombia.

Good.

That makes it more likely he would consider playing for us. If we have called JDC why not call him as well? JDC has more first team experience but this kid has made the bench for AC Milan. I know it is standard for their youth but that has to be worth something.

Vitoria will almost assuredly be playing in the Superliga/Liga Sagres. If not with Estoril (in 1st place) promoting then he'll likely transfer up to a bigger club.

If there are any legs to the Portugal call-up story it's likely that he caught the NT staffs' attention during a Cup game at FC Porto 2 weeks ago (Estoril lost a close battle 1-0).
