Why David Hoilett Jr should choose the R’Boyz over Canada.

As we all know by FiFA rules we have as much right to Junior as Canada. His family is rooted and grounded Jamaicans and we as a people have a strong cultural identity and pride. Junior who was born in Canada and growing up in such a household no doubt feels a strong connection to Jamaica and Canada as well. Probably this may explain his prolong decision of not declaring for either country as yet.

With both countries I would say having an equal pull on his heart strings, his decision to play for either one should come down to which nation football is ahead in progression at the moment. Well, this is the criteria that all professionals ballaz use when choosing between competing nation for their services.

Recently we heard Daniel Sturridge on a popular entertainment show spoke of how he loves Jamaica. He was asked why he doesn’t play for us and he remarked that he was never contacted by our FA. Nevertheless he said if England come calling he wouldn’t resist for obvious reasons.

Obvious reasons, well Jamaica in no way can compete with a nation that ranks in the top ten in the world. So with both nations having equal pull on his heart strings he went with the nation that’s way ahead in football progress and that's England. No one can argue with that and the same goes for Ashley Young; possible Scott Sinclair & Alex Chamberlain who are both being scouted by the English coach.

When one compares our record the past 12 months to that of Canada it’s very clear who’s made the most progress. Will pay particular attention to official tournaments and friendlies leading up to these tournaments.

In the most recent completed Gold Cup in the USA Canada was eliminated in the first round with a 1-1-1 record, giving up 3 goals while scoring 2.

Jamaica on the other hand made it to the quarters, losing to the USA 2-0 after a 3-0 start, scoring 7 goals and conceding none. And I might add that the ESPN commentators remarked of how well Jamaica has progress to being a legitimate contender in the Gold Cup.

Canada’s record earlier in the year leading up to the Gold Cup was 1-1-1, while Jamaica’s was 1-0-1. Even though Jamaica had not bode well in their last 5 friendlies –all loses, it must be noted that these were friendlies where our coaches were basically experimenting with new players from our local pro league as well as those from the UK; and getting a result wasn’t the primary focus. Canada on the other hand was busy with preliminary WCQ matches.

Head to head with Canada in the last two years. During qualifications for the 2010 WC, They conceded an equalizer shortly after scoring the opening goal in a 1–1 draw to Jamaica at BMO Field. We managed an impressive 3–0 victory over Canada in their final third round match but Jamaica failed to move on as Mexico advanced on goal difference after a 1–0 loss to Honduras.

Canada finished last in the four-team group with just 2 points from 6 matches. While Jamaica finish second with a 3-1-2 record only to see Mexico advance over Jamaica to the WCQ on just goal difference.

Jamaica played three friendly matches to start of 2010, a 1–0 win over Canada at the National Stadium in Jamaica during January, 21 scored by Ricardo Fuller. So head to head in the last two years against Canada having played them three times we have beaten them twice and drew once scoring 4 goals while giving up only 1.

Jamaica at the moment is ranked 52 in the world, & 5th in ConCaCaf, while Canada who ranks 74 is at 8th pl in ConCaCaf.

It quite evident that Jamaica is ahead of Canada for the last two years in head to head competition, as well as tournament fixtures, world & local rankings.

Junior Hoilett should not look any further than Jamaica which besides Hoilett is looking to add further fire power to its arsenal. For those who are not aware of who I’m referring to, we have several key players plying their trade in the EPL & Championship in England. The two awesome swingman for Swansea City, and they are Scott Sinclair & Nathan Dyer. Jermaine Beckford who scored a hat trick last week is another, as well as Jobi McAnuff the creative/attacking genius for reading fc in the Championship; Marlon King who have scored 9 goals so far for Birmingham City has being the R’Noyz most prolific finisher the past number of years. Then we have the exemplary young protégé from Arsenal FC Alex Chamberlain who has seen time in their starting 11; And Lewis McGugan of Nottingham Forrest a very poise holding midfielder.

These are but a few of the quality players our FA is looking at presently in England & Junior Hoilett would be a nice compliment to any of these midfielders our FA will invite.

Junior it just makes sense to play for the R’Boyz at this time. We’re in the right situation, Players are gelling, peaking at the right time –as our form at the Gold Cup indicated. You have more to gain by being a part of us, and as another piece to our midfield puzzle you'd make our hopes of qualifying for 2014 more possible than Canada's

To be honest Jr would be a great and possible game breaker type addition to either squad. Both the Boyz and we are in need of someone just like Jr. Tough decision for Jr but I hope he picks us naturally. I've sort of given up being pissed when someone doesn't play for us. Too bad, so sad and move on. I still find it very mercenarial but not worth stressing myself over. I'll just have a beer and see who we do have available and willing.

Wow, this is clearly biased. I could make a post like that as well:

Why David Hoilett Jr should choose the Maple Leaf over Jamaica.

As we all know by FiFA rules Jamaica has a right to call Hoilett. But Canada is the nation of his birth, and although his parents are from Jamacia, he has had kept an ongoing dialog with coach Stephen Hart about the possibility of playing for Canada. Jamaicans have a strong cultural identity and pride, yet Junior has never expressed a desire to play for them; this clearly indicates that he has no interest in playing for the island nation. Last year, a media outlet in England stated that Hoilett was strongly considering Canada, however another report in England suggested that Hoilett may entertain an offer from England if it ever came. This may explain his prolong decision of not declaring for Canada yet.

His decision to play for either England or Canada may come down to which nation football is ahead in progression at the moment.

For anyone who seen the show, it was quite easy to read between the lines. Saying that he was never contacted by Jamaica was much easier than saying, "I am good enough to play for a top 10 nation in the world". This desire to play for England was expressed when he said if England come calling he wouldn’t resist for obvious reasons.

Nathan Dyer is another EPL player who is eligible but has not suited up in yellow and green, but it is not just the EPL players who have decided to pass on Jamaica. Championship players like Jermaine Beckford, who scored a hat trick last week is another, as well as Jobi McAnuff the creative/attacking genius for reading fc in the Championship have yet to represent Jamaica. Despite the fact that Jamaicans are so culturally attached to their country, and considering neither of these players are on the England radar, perhaps their absence shows that playing for Jamaica may not benefit them, as the program has likely reached it's peak for growth.

When one compares our record the past 12 months to that of Jamaica, one could argue that our form has been less impressive.

In the most recent completed Gold Cup in the USA. We were eliminated in the first round for the first time since 2005, with a 1-1-1 record, giving up 3 goals while scoring 2 (albeit in the most competitive group).

Jamaica on the other hand made it to the quarters, losing to the USA 2-0, the same scoreline as our match with the Americas. This should be evidence that Jamaica is not "clearly ahead of Canada", as some R’Boyz fans may believe. After a 3-0 start, scoring 7 goals and conceding none in a group with Honduras and Guatemala, their record should be commended. But it should also be noted that our group had Panama and the USA, two of the four semi-finalists, plus a Guadalupe side that has made it out of the group stage in 2007 and 2009 (a better record than Jamaica in this same time frame).

Canada’s record earlier in the year leading up to the Gold Cup was 1-1-1, while Jamaica’s was 1-0-1. Even though Canada's record was better than Jamaica's, it could still have been better. It must be noted that these were friendlies against better teams, which perhaps shows what team is in better form considering the recent records. Jamaicans will claim their coaches were basically experimenting with new players from our local pro league as well as those from the UK; and getting a result wasn’t the primary focus, But Canada was also building depth in the squad during this preparation leading up to the preliminary WCQ matches.

Head to head with Jamaica in the last two years. During qualifications for the 2010 WC, We conceded an equalizer shortly after scoring the opening goal in a 1–1 draw to Jamaica at BMO Field. We then managed a not so impressive 3–0 defeat, but that result was with a B-team with several players becoming cap tied in the process. There was also nothing to play for as we were mathematically eliminated at that point.

Jamaica at the moment is ranked 52 in the world, & 5th in ConCaCaf, while Canada who ranks 74 is at 8th pl in ConCaCaf.

It is far from evident that Jamaica is ahead of Canada for the last two years in head to head competition, tournament fixtures, world & local rankings, which by the way have been bolstered due to a rare advancement from the group stage in the last Gold Cup.

Junior Hoilett should not look any further than Canada which besides Hoilett is looking to add further fire power to its arsenal. For those who are not aware of who I’m referring to, we have a key player plying his trade in La Liga in Spain. The awesome creative midfielder for Villarreal, who scored against Bayern Munich, and also assisted in a goal against Manchester City in the group stages of this years Champions League, was the star for Mallorca last season. He has played for the Dutch in the Olympics, and if he decided to switch to Canada, he would one of the top attacking midfielders in the region.

This is a quality player, who has gone on recording indicating he wants to play for the nation of his birth. Our FA is looking to bring him in & Junior Hoilett would be a nice compliment to him in our midfield, that already had PSV ace Atiba Hutchinson, MLS golden boot winner and MVP Dwayne DeRosario.

Junior it just makes sense to play for the Canada at this time. We’re in the right situation, Players are gelling, we have built depth in the squad, and we are peaking at the right time –as our form in the last WCQ indicates (undefeated record). Furthermore, our blip in last years Gold Cup can be over looked, as in 2009 we reached the quarters (beating Jamaica in the group stage), and in 2007 we reached the semi's (Jamaica never even qualified). You have more to gain by being a part of us, and as another piece to our midfield puzzle you'd make our hopes of qualifying for 2014 more possible than Jamaica's.

You gotta admire a fan putting his best case forward. I suspect that if we searched, we'd find a few of these here too :-).

But, good sir, I raise your Championship based attacking genius Jobi McNuff, with La Liga attacking genius Jono DeGuzman...

I find the majority of the raggaeboyz fans to be over confident and they have a higher opinion of their team than most neutral observers. At the same time, I think the Jamaican mentally is one of extreme confidence, so it comes as no surprise.

Well not really surprising they are fans, most people on this board would have a higher opinion of our team then nuetral observers. Fact is they have some really talented players that qualify for Jamaica through ancestry but are born and raised in England, identifying those players as Jamaican probably gives them a higher self worth but realistically most of those guys are never going to suit up for Jamaica so it really does'nt matter in the big picture of things. Oxalade Chamberlain is going to be a star and will suit up for England, Sinclair could potentially be an England player and I don't see him suiting up for Jamaica unless it is clear he does'nt have a future with England which would mean a few years, Dyer won't make England so could be a possibility. Basically they are never getting the first class talent, Ashley Cole, Ashley Young types but as they probably should'nt since they are English born and raised in the English game.

So they claim many of these players just based on their eligibility whereas most of the guys who we have lost/will potentially lose were born and raised in Canada and learned the game at an early age in Canada (Whoregreaves, Hoilett, JDG2) hopefully the last 2 end up with us soon.

Sounds like me and half the V's when they talk about the CMNT. We're going to destroy Panama, Honduras and Cuba and make the HEX!!!!

Someone should create a Post Card with this displayed on it and mail it to Hoilett.

They earned that confidence in the 1970s/1980s with their EXTRAORDINARY cricket team.

I was living in England in 1976 when the West Indies ran rampant through England. I remember watching Viv Richards whack a first innings double century (233 if memory serves) in the first 3 day test match and I then promptly went out and bought a Viv Richards autographed Sommerset Bat (still an important part of my home defence system but sadly, has never stroked a boundary in anger…). I remember the English print media mocking the England batters for coming out to bat looking like something out of “Star Wars” (various protective gear including helmets – now common place but then considered unmanly) such was their respect for (fear of?) the Windies pace bowlers. I don’t think England won any of the 3 day or the 1 day test matches, although I believe they did draw the first despite Richard’s batting heroics in the first match. I believe – although my memory may be mistaken - that my all time favourite Cricketer (the always controversial and thoroughly dedicated to living large Ian “Beefy” Botham, bane of West Indian bed makers and connoisseur of West Indian ganja) made his England debut during one of the 1 day internationals.
