Josh Simpson terminates contract with Manisaspor

Turkish side Manisaspor announced on its website that Canadian attacker Josh Simpson has terminated his contract with the club.

The issue seems to be over unpaid wages, with Simpson claiming that Manisaspor owes him money while the club denied this and has threatened to initiate legal action against the player for an unlawful breach of contract.

The 28-year-old led the side in scoring last season, and most recently struck for Manisaspor just yesterday in a 2-1 loss to Fenerbahce. Fellow Canadian international Mike Klukowski is still with the club. ...

Turkish football always seems to the land of high reward but high risk. I'm surprised it took this long! Maybe it's a negotiation tactic and he'll come back to the team once he's paid some part of what he thinks he's owed.

Will he have to go through some sort of FIFA hoops before he signs on to his next club? I can't imagine it would look good on his part, legally, to have something immediately lined up.

I swore I'd never be one of those fans who links every Canadian to a Canadian MLS team but Simpson joining the Whitecaps makes way too much sense.

I can't tell if you're serious, I think it would be crap for our MNT.. first off we want Teibert to grab that left winger spot and second we don't need Josh Simpson going through an MLS schedule, by September he'll be toast just when we need him most.

You're right, Keegan, I should have been clearer: way too much sense for the Whitecaps. I reckon Simpson could play centrally for Vancouver so Teibert could play left wing, and of course Teibert has been an AM C for Whitecaps Residency and Canada youth anyway.

Simpson's increased fatigue from playing an MLS schedule is arguably balanced out by Simpson's decreased fatigue from not having to join the team from ****ing Turkey, but it's a serious argument. Plus he'd probably be playing at a slightly lower level. From an MNT perspective, Simpson to Vancouver would be a mixed bag for sure.

As noted above here's hoping he joins a B1 team in Germany....or maybe Spain where he'd prob fit in.

But yes, for WFC it makes perfect sense, but for CMNT level of play it doesn't.....and yes, it would potentially reduce Teibert's chances! Hmmm.....

Simpson centrally behind 1 or 2 strikers for Whitecaps would be scary in MLS. Can you imagine Simpson supporting a Hassli-Camilo duo up top? Parking Teibert wide left, and Dede or Harris wide right.....failure to score would be unforgiveable!

I think it's quite dangerous to play such tricks, considering crazy turkish fans.

Btw, there's a neat trick, when player can block his salary card and then terminate contract because of unpaid wages and leave his current club for free. (tested and approved in Russia)

And of course he already found himself a new club (it would be silly to terminate his contract if there's no certain offer from other club)

P.S.

He's already unemployed at http://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/en/josh-simpson/profil/spieler_36873.html

Well, if Simpson is legit not getting paid anyway then he might think he has nothing to lose: he can try and at least make money with somebody and being available as a free agent would make it far easier to get a new team.

Until he gets a certain offer, he can still train and perform best at Manisaspor just knowing he can leave any time as a free agent.

I think you can attract more potential employers by playing in official games.

And, with 12 days left until transfer window closes in Europe... what's a chance that he leaves just for trials ?

That's too risky

A Swiss paper is reporting that Young Boys Bern is interested in him though that does not make any sense to me. I would prefer he goes to MLS than Switzerland. Probably not much to it but here is the link in German: http://www.blick.ch/sport/fussball/superleague/habe-tolles-angebot-aus-russland-191214 I think what would make a lot more sense would be a return to FC Kaiserslautern in the 1st Bundesliga. However, if MLS is a possibility, do the Caps have any DP spots left? If he were to go anywhere I could see him in Montreal as we still have all of our DP spots and there have been rumours of a big signing coming. BTW, this will probably go to court but he likely has a good case as he is not the first one who has not been paid by Manisaspor. Their coach from last year left the team in the summer because he was not getting paid and also because he was frustrated trying to deal with players upset about not getting wages.

I think he'll end up in Germany on a B1 team. There's a lot of movement of players between the Bundesliga and Turkish football. I wouldn't mind seeing him on a mid-table EPL team either...Everton or Sunderland (now that O'Neil is in charge) seem good to me. Even Swansea if they sell Sinclair as some rumours are suggesting.

As for MLS, I agree that it'd be a bad decision from a CMNT standpoint. I'd love him at TFC though

But why put your body and potentially your career at risk if you're not getting paid and if you can't attract new employers with the transfer window closed?

The same happened to Kris Boyd who canceled his earlier this year and he's still without a team. Klukowski didn't have something immediately lined up either. I'd be very surprised if he has something immediately lined up but I'm happy to be wrong.

With 12 days left he's probably at wits end - fed up and figured he either gets his wages or gets a new club. Not a lot to lose at this point. (And in some leagues, can't players without a club sign outside the transfer window as long as they are without a contract when the window closes?)

Lets so how interest clubs like FCK and Hertha Berlin are now about his services.

As suggested, a move to the Bundesliga wouldn't be a surprise, but in the rednationonline interview series he mentions that he never enjoyed his time in Germany because he felt they excessively trained (I think he also mentioned the style of play never suited him or something along those lines). He did say that he really enjoyed Manisapor because they encouraged him to express himself offensively so I am sure this was NOT an easy decision for him, and I also have no doubt that he is legit when it comes to the money thing.

Perhaps he would move to Spain or Portugal, they are similar in climate with an easy going lifestyle. Perhaps Mallorca would be a good fit? I just hope he moves somewhere in the next 12 days (NOT MLS).

Guys, the only way the MLS will get better is if guys like Simpson come here to play in their prime.....people whine all day about the quality of the MLS and, mide you we are assuming that Simpson will indeed be available and want to come home, when we have a chance to bring in a quality canadian player people cry that he is better off in Europe...I hope he does come to Canada to play....maybe more will follow....maybe him and Klukowski will both come and suit up for Montreal...or TFC (since apparently the Whitecaps are fine)....
