MLS Super Draft 01-12-2011

Why is the ticker not showing anymore picks after the second round? There were three rounds last year.

It's changed.. there will be 2 supplemental draft rounds on Tuesday, why they are called supplemental rounds and not just the 3rd and 4th rounds I do not know. I'll be shocked if James doesn't go early in the supplemental, obviously the fact that he's Canadian threw off American teams so hopefully one of the Canadian teams can get him and give him a fair shake. He was more impressive at the combine than many of the guys taken today.. anyone see KC's second rounder? lol I'm sure they could have waited until the supplemental draft for that one

Plata was picked in the third round of the super draft last year and he was named the team MVP this year. But as far as players from the supplimental draft making it it to MLS, i would say that the odds are not good. In TFC's case or Vancouvers' case, I dont believe a single player from the supplimental ever dressed or much less got a contract. So i dont know why they even bother having a supplemental draft.

Therefore dont be surprised in James ends up in Scandinavia.

^Probably the exceptions that prove the rule, but Wondolowski and Larentowicz were both picked in the 4th round of the 2005 supplemental. Unless it was some type of Polish/Ukranian special MLS draft I haven't heard of. :)

I missed one. Michael Boxall was the first overall pick in the supplemental Draft last year.

This logic baffles me Free Kick...

The supplemental draft 1st round this year = last years 3rd round where Plata was picked, yet you think this year those players won't have a chance.. okay then.

The truth is you never know what will happen with a player, someone can get hurt in training and never play a day.

I wonder how much picking a draft pick is like picking stocks in that you have about the same amount of luck with hundreds of hours of research as you do throwing 20 darts at a stock page in the newspaper.

That said, I hope for the best for all the kids drafted, it is a unique experience that very few people will ever know.

Can't believe Lucky Mkosana went 23rd.. sure he had a good combine but he's 24!!

Lucky is the best player I've seen over the past two years (I've been to about two dozen D1 games up and down the East Coast). He's definitely a fan favourite at Dartmouth and a big part of the community. I'm a huge fan and wish him well. As a Dartmouth grad I'm sure he has lots of options beyond soccer but former Big Green teammate Dan Keat did sign and play for LA Galaxy last year.
