The MLS SuperDraft is fast approaching, with Montreal selcting first over all, Toronto 4th and 12th, and Vancouver with the second selection. All three clubs should get decent talent.

How does this years draft compare with other years in terms of available talent?

Who would you like your club to draft?

Here is a preview

Good strikers are so rare and that is why I'm thinking Montreal will go with Mattocks. Wenger is probably a better all around player but a DM is easier to find than a good striker. Either one would be able to start and help the club.

Anyone have any thoughts on the other players this year? How deep is it?

TFC at 4th and 12th could get 2 good players.

I wonder who will grab the 2 Canucks?

Both players have had good combines and are rated by commentators, both scored yesterday James with a real nice finish and apparently Sodade is not only one of the biggest players in the combine but one of the fastest as well.. wouldn't be surprised to see one or both go in the first 2 rounds but of course their INT status for 16/19 teams might hurt them.

UPDATED: The latest MLSsoccer.com 2012 Mock Draft

Simon Borg has IMFC drafting Chandler Hoffman (FW) at #1, for what ever that's worth.

Wenger is a consensus pick for Vancouver.

2/3 have Andrew Jean-Baptiste (DF) for TFC, 1/3 have Kelyn Rowe (MF). Rowe would be the first overall pick if it were up to me.

Simon Borg is a moron. I suspect that Marsch will take Wenger. The guy can play anywhere on the pitch and score goals. He's highly touted by the USSF, which can't hurt. Unfortunately, I'm reading Winter has his heart set on a defender, so it probably makes no sense to trade 4 & 12, for 2 & 21 with the Caps.

Not sure what this leaves for the Caps. Calum Mallace would be a nice pick up, but not likely at #2. Kelyn Rowe is somewhat local (Seattle), but Jean-Baptist is also intruiging.

It's a shame he's such a moron because he ranked Sodade as a 1st rounder and James as a 2nd... but his assessment of Chandler Hoffman just screamed "How did I get this job?"

YNWA, Winter has his heart set on a defender or more defensive mid? You think he wants two more defenders? Think he wants them out of the draft?

EDIT:

Been reading some more on this and I think that Winters was pretty neutral about whether or not DF was what he wanted for sure out of the draft. He says he is open and I am sure he wants to win CONCACAF but seems that he has a longer term view of things and it seems to me that there is some decent DF coming up from the Academy.

If we can get Sodade in our #12 spot I think he could help us out with speed, I would like to see what he can do as a Defensive Mid or on D, I can only imagine what being crunched by that guy would do to you.

Anyone who knows more than me know how many college strikers end up playing Mid or DF? They are likely going to be the best player on their team if they are making the pro's so the college coach puts them as a striker but if Sodade can defend... well, I wouldn't want to have to try to get past him, he is fast as heck, stops and turns on a dime and if he can tackle AND has the mind for defending (ability to know where everyone is at all times and read signs from opposition) well... me likes.

Hard to see James not going at a good spot in this draft, he led his team with a goal and an assist today in a 3-1 win at the final day of the Combine. I only saw him play in the first game and I was impressed.

He finishes with 2 goals and an assist, while Sodade finishes with a goal and an assist great results for both

Drafting positionally in a so-so talent pool can be an absolute disaster. If he is really set on getting a defender, he should move down a few spots.

That being said, TFC is already heavily rumored with two central defenders right now so I don't think it will be necessary to get them from the draft.

If Montreal draft Wenger, I'd definitely like to see a VWFC-TFC swap of their first two picks: 2,21 for 4,12. Mattocks is an upgrade for TFC, and we could take a prospect like Jean-Baptist, given that we already have 3 CBs who can play. Paniagua or Mallace at number 12 would suit me fine.

I think that is a very interesting possibility and I'd love to see it happen... unfortunately, I just don't see the Impact passing on Mattocks.
