Soccerpro
I predict the biggest year in recent history for the game in Canada on the mens side. 1. JDG2 and Junior Hoilett lead Canada to the hex. 2. A few Canadian NASL stadouts from last year make the jump to MLS 3. The Impact are a huge success in the city of Montreal. TFC make it to the semi finals of the CCL and make the playoffs in MLS. 4. The u23 Olympic qualifying team puts in a good performance but comes up short of qualifying, getting knocked out in the semi final. 5. The CSA continues to make strides towards respectability. 6. Youth players in the MLS academies continue to earn shots with their respective first teams.
canucklefan
That would be an exceptional year if all 6 predictions come to happen. Before reading your post, I was thinking the same as your point #3: TFC making it to the semifinals in the CCL. Number 6 is likely to happen as well. Let's see which club bring more young players from its academy.
gigi riva
I hope for all the above But I think Canada will some how make it to the Hex with Hoilett, and JDG2 and a surprise player. I Think Canada will qualify fro the Olympics and then get slammed over there, I think the Impact will have a decent season and have a solid fan base Like the Allouettes. If we made the Olympics, it would be impressive if JDG2 played for us there. Has anyone ever represented two countries in Olympic football history? I wouldn't be very surprised if it happened 60 or so years ago when players could seemingly switch nations like a club.

Tuscan
Well, I hope TFC makes it past LA, and I hope Morgan and Stinson are a big reason why (both playing strong games in both legs). I hope the Impact reveal their academy structure, and that it involves more than just playing in a CSL farm team. I hope the Caps make the playoffs. I hope the Impact have a better first season than the Caps did. TFC not making the playoffs wouldn't break my heart, but it'd really worry me for the health of the game in Toronto (sadly, I really do believe the health of the MNT has a positive correlation with TFC's success, as the Nats are still heavily reliant on the popularity of the game, which is driven by TFC, in Toronto). I hope we have a good showing at the Olympic qualifiers, and that we don't embarrass ourselves. I'll be beyond choked if we don't make the Hex, with or without JDG2 and Jr. Regardless, here's to hanging out with the lot of you at the next MNT match, be it in the country or in Cuba. ThiKu
Soccerpro - you must be feeling very ambitious/hopeful after a nice little Christmas day eh?? I'll take those gifts gladly - I agree all 6 are wonderful, but #1-2 are iffy at the very best, as much as I want to see both happen and want to see the 2-4 capable FCE guys get a chance in MLS as well as this Gyorio lad. Impact have already stated in numerous places and various occasional their youth system will be a part of the USSDA. So you don't like the CSL - but look at how many TFC players have moved from academy to first team and now Morgan and Stinson into the CMNT having gone through the CSL....that league appears to be a sufficient training ground. You certainly can't say it is a superior league to the USSDA. The USSDA is certainly a good league, no doubt there. Apologies - the below is a bit off topic. What I'd actually like to see TFC and Mtl do is put a u16 and u18 team into the USSDA and then a whole separate team(s) into the CSL just as they have always done but maybe make it u18/u20 or u18/u21....heck could have u16/18 in USSDA and u16/18 in CSL but make it 4 separate teams....and/or make the rosters fluid and identify the CSL players as the top of the youth TFC pyramid....I suspect they'd unearth enough talent in southern Ontario to be able to have such a program (especially if they are investing $20m in a training centre - they'll want to maximize youth development for purpose of selling players on....)....???? The setup each MLS academy should have is what the whitecaps currently have: 14 - exhibition season 16 - USSDA 18 - USSDA u21 - CSL/PDL+Reserve league The biggest asset of the USSDA is it operates through out the year. The only matches that TFC play after summer time are sporadic exhibition games. That's a negative. Yes my earlier post was optimistic. However, this has the potential to be THE year. It's about time we had some luck on our side. With a little luck, 2012 it is. I can not wait to see BMO rocking like '08 against Jamaica.
Sam
It's pretty simple for me. If Canada is still alive in WCQ and heading to the hex on January 1st 2013, then 2012 was a successful year in Canadian soccer, if they are out it was not a successful year. BearcatSA
I predict that for the first two WCQ matches in June (away to Cuba, home vs Honduras), the midfield/forward six will feature these five guys as starters (barring injury and excluding the presently uncommitted): Hutchinson, Simpson, DeRosario, Julian de Guzman, and Johnson. The only question mark for me is the central attacker.

A_Gagne
^+2... I'm a CMNT and VWC fan first, but also a fan of any team that wears a maple leaf on it's jersey (male, female, club or country). Objectively though the CMNT is the straw that stirs the drink. If almost every other prediction/wish originally listed here comes true, but yet the CMNT stumbles out of WCQ, pundits will still look back on this year as another forgettable chapter in the story of underachievement that is Canadian Soccer; however, if the Hex is achieved it would be considered a win, and if even a couple of other things go our way it would be declaired a banner year and potential harbinger of things to come. The Hex or bust!
A_Gagne
In terms of actual predictions... as opposed to wishes, I predict. 1) The CMNT will make the Hex 2) JDG2 will turn out for Canada 3) Jr. Hoilett will frustratingly continue to "focus on his club career". 4) Men's U23 squad will make the semi-finals in Olympic Qualifying, but fall short against Mexico 5) Big Red will get back to winning ways in Vancouver and book it's ticket to London. 6) The Impact will achieve respectability in their first Season and battle for the final playoff spot in the East, but I'm sure the MLS will get it's introduction to Saputo/NDS drama in some way, shape or form. 7) TFC will fall short of further advancement in the CCL, LA even minus Beckham will be a bridge too far... but will make the playoffs as Winter's system and team starts to jell into an Eastern powerhouse. 8) VWC will have a better but not stellar season and fall short of a playoff birth. Martin Rennie will stay on as coach, but with the Duzz back at in charge Tom Soehn will be marginalized and finally let go at the end of the season. Simply stated, it's going to take more than one season to wash last year's dirty laundry. 9) Edmonton FC will continue their winning ways on the pitch, but find a permanent stadium elusive, leaving question marks surrounding their long term financial viability. (i.e. year two will be a glass half full) 10) the CSA will announce the results of their lengthy "D2 Study" consultation process, and we'll all get a clearer idea of what the future holds for D2 soccer in Canada... I get the feeling the plan will involve 2-4 Canadian USL conferences, but not full integration with USL on the admin side of things. Perhaps this doesn't occur in 2012, but I predict the CSL gets cannibalized to facilitate one of the new "D2" conferences.
Marc
Canada will not make the Hex or the Olympics TFC and Vancouver will make the playoffs, with TFC advancing past the first round The Impact will have a terrible MLS season Jono and Junior will not play for Canada USL will announce another altering of its league structures One Canadian team withdraws from USL A Canadian gets a pro management job overseas

Anyway, just a couple quick corrections here. 1. the u14 side is strictly speaking a u14 side but it actually is two separate squads divided into a u12/13 and u13/14 side. They also have camps monthly and a scouting series for u10-u12 (three separate camps, not combined age groups) scattered throughout the region in the Lower Mainland. 2. The u21 side is u23 PDL. Though it has mostly been 16-19 year olds.
gigi riva
2012 will be maybe the biggest year in the History of Soccer in this country, With tfc CCL play off v L.A. both womens and mens u23 trying to qualify for Olympics, and of course The Mens world cup qualifiying campaign. My predicitons are as follows TFC will beat L.A. in the Quarterfinals but lose out in the next round, But TFC will make playoffs, VWC will be a much improved team especially on the road, But will fall short of Playoffs But Hassili will lead the league in scoring. Montreal will be very decent similiar to what Portland were last year. But will miss the playoffs. The Men's National team will advance to the Hex but barely, JDG2 will play and I think Hoilett also, The women will qualify for London, and the men also both will be hammered over there unfortunatly
