3 Top/Bottom Players of the Round

Recommended Posts

Top:

1. Ricketts - How could you not be impressed with this guy? For a guy who only had one start and four substitute appearances he definitely made the most of his opportunities impressing every time he was on the pitch, even in our two awful performances. What a rise for a player who a year ago was playing in Finland. Hart will find it hard to keep him out of the XI for the match in February. His speed is incredible and he's still developing pretty quickly it looks like, playing regular football for a team like Poli even though they are in the 2nd division atm isn't bad at all.

2. Edgar - 5 games, 0 goals against. Was our best option at right back in the round imo but we needed him in his natural spot where he was solid, he's passed McKenna imo.

3. Hume - Hume went down vs. Puerto Rico and we didn't look the same until Tuesday. Up until then he was a regular and bagged 3 goals in four matches. Was frustrated vs. St. Lucia but recovered well in the next few matches.. I thought he looked really good in the PR match before he went down.

Bottom:

1. De Rosario - Love the guy and I know an odd choice after the record tying goal Tuesday but only 2 goals from the penalty spot with six starts THIS round?? Tried to be a one man show at bad times and never really created space or chances for himself or teammates, I expected a better showing.

2. Dunfield - uhhh ya

3. Occean - Didn't like the showboat in St. Lucia and thought he was poor in his two matches as a sub.. 3 goals are nice but I expected a bit more.

Mine are in no particular order

Top:

1. Edgar - Looked composed at the back

2. Simpson - Not a lot of end product, but always trying, always (sometimes too eager) willing to run at defenders

3. Hume - Agree with the above

Bottom:

1. Jackson - Just did not look comfortable in any role he was given, failed to score when we needed him to (hello breakaways in St. Kitts)

2. JDG - In our poorest games it was our central midfield that was the real weak spot

3. Dunfield - See above

Ricketts - Like the man said above, he really made the most of his opportunities and looks like a solid piece for years.

Edgar - Looks very strong in the middle

Straith - Thought he did well at both RB and CB, after having been overlooked in the 1st couple rounds.

Jackson - Only looked dangerous in St. Lucia. We need more consistency from the guy who should be our main striking threat.

De Ro - Like Jackson, De Ro does it all in the MLS but for CMNT it's been a lot of useless play and finishing penalties. Hope the next round he lights it up !!!

Occean - Didn't see much that impressed. His 3 goals were nice but was a shade of the player Ricketts was on Tuesday

DeRo was quite poor - certainly for the standard we expect. His movement was slow and predictable. His decision making with the ball suspect. Jackson was trying so hard to be good that he wasn't. Poor guy. He'll do better v. superior opposition. Occean...I didn't see him play. I don't have a third poor player, although Dunfield....

Best: Edgar, Ricketts, Simpson - Straith was excellent as well.

Best:

Simpson - really starting to prove in my mind that he is our best (most skilled player)

Edgar - I'm not as worrying now if (my) first choice centre backs McKenna and Jakovic aren't fit

Ricketts - the new Ali Gerba. Technically not that great but the speed makes up for alot!! Can be frustrating with his poor touch one minute and then poaching a goal the next. I don't think he's starter material yet, but I'm really optimistic about where this guy's going to be at two years.

Rest:

Not going to really beat up on anyone, but if a choice ever has too be made between Dunfield and Bernier - I'll take Dunfield. They're both adequate tacklers/ball winners, but I'll take the guy who can pass over the guy who can't (even if those passes are often lateral or back passes.)

Best 3:

Ricketts - enough been said about the lad. If he can find a natural finishing touch, oh boy could his international play help him climb in the club ranks.

Edgar - great to have a guy we can believe in at CB outside of our starting two, I wouldn't push out McKenna just yet but it's getting close to that point if Edgar continues to play well.

Hume - man's a legend. period.

Bottom 3:

De Rosario - Always just seemed to be in the way and not meshing with what his team was trying to do. I'm not sure if it's coaching, him choosing to freelance or what. He's too talented to not be making these kind of teams look foolish, so clearly someone is on the wrong page or there's a miscommunication out there.

Jackson - I expect much better.

De Guzman/Dunfield - I think these two are past their time for playing int'l soccer. I appreciate their desire but I'm not sure if they have enough youth left in the tank for what's to come. Next summer their a year older, round 4 another year old...WC 2014...another year older. I'd like to see more from Bernier to see if he's the right man to step in for when Hutchinson isn't available.

Best 3 = Simpson, Edgar & Ricketts

I don't do worst 3 because they all have off games and they know it. They show up and give 100% for our MNT and that is good enough for me. It is up to the coach to bring in other players for positions when he thinks players aren't cutting it.

Top 3:

1. Edgar: came in after being MIA with the Nats for quite a long while. I wasn't sure of his quality, but I am now. I question his pace to get back against speedy Central American attackers like Martinez and that kid from Panama, but his size and strength should pose a tough force to get past.

2. Ricketts: We have some lightning pace on the right now to compliment the lightning pace of Simpson on the left. We could have a very potent attack if Simpson and Ricketts were deployed together. I see Ricketts as one of the new secret weapons we uncovered during this campaign, and I will be very disappointed if Hart doesn't give him the start against Panama and Honduras. We need his pace to force the Honduran fullbacks to spread the field. He just needs to work on his crossing.

3. Hume: Great campaign until the injury. He was our deadliest striker and just has a nose for goal. He was unlucky to not pot any during the 4-1 vs. St. Lucia. I still think he is the right choice for the central striker, with Simpson and Ricketts out on the wings. This guys is tough as nails and plays with so much damn heart that it shocks me when he doesn't start.

Honourable Mentions: Simpson, Straith (thank god he's bounced back from that gift he gave Greece)

Bottom 3:

1. Jackson: his confidence must be quite low at the moment. He hasn't been able to bury his chances since the 7-1 @ St. Lucia, which is very concerning. We need him to get his confidence back so he can become that super sub he was when he first started with the Nats.

2. DeRo: it's been said, but why can't he be as clutch for us as he can be in MLS? Is it a comfort factor that is affecting his confidence in the Nats jersey? Frustrating to watch unless he's lining up to take a penalty - then it's a guaranteed thing.

3. Dunfield: If you don't got it against Caribbean minnows, then it's time to step back. He could be a great destroyer-type sub to keep on the bench if we're up in the second half, but other than that I don't see where he fits in this team any longer. He's scored a few highlight reel goals but those are moments and we need full match performances, which he doesn't have in him right now it seems. It's sad, because his season with the Caps started out so damn well, it was such a great homecoming story in the making, and then it seemed to de-rail. I'd like to find out why.

Agreed with everything that you said. Its nice to see a completely positive post every now and then.

Wow, you lads have really drunk the Ricketts Kool Ade, eh? I am excited about his potential, but one decent performance in a meaningless game does not launch him into my top three.

Best of the best:

1. Hutch -- the guy is so good he need only play a couple of games in this round to have me put him on top

2. Hume -- spark plug who is making things happen. he is growing up. love how he comes to the midfield to support the ball

3. Simpson -- i would have likely rated him higher had hutch been healthy all round. with hutch, josh would have done more damage

Bottom feeders:

1. JBB

2. Dunfield

3. Bernier/JDG

Most improved:

1. Edgar

2. Ricketts

3. Ledgerwood

Agree with this 100 %. I thought Ricketts showed his technical limitations. He has speed but his technical skills let to be desire. Really poor services and a not so great first touch. IMO, he's a valuable sub that can be a good asset against a tired defense. I can't see him being a starter for us ias a winger in a 4-51 unless he improves his passing/crossing skills.

In no particular order

TOP

1. Ricketts- Provided good speed and width

2. Edgar- Great, strong play at the back/helped keep the clean sheet

3. Simpson- Nice runs down the wing though his delivery could have been better

BOTTOM

1. Jackson- Plain and simple he just needs to be better as he is a top player

2. De Guzman- I felt he wasn't creative enough during the games

3. Dunfield- Just plain ****
