James
http://the11.ca/category/nasl-usl/ Cool to see the academy starting with young kids and allowing itself to grow over a long term. Saiko, if he stays and Lam if he comes back would be a pretty fantastic midfield. I think Lam's injury kept him out and made it hard to come back into the JEF lineup. Watching Lam play in the 2010 exhibition season(I think he was team MVP too), tells me that FCE will have the best midfield in the NASL next season. Gotta stick Saiko back in the middle though, Van Leerdam doesn't have the same kinda game.
jedinathan
My only problem with this is that we saw a talented keeper sit out because of a high paid import. What are the chances that Saiko or Lam suffer playing time because FCE has a lone Dutchman on the roster? Also the other interesting piece from the 11 last night: the club has been talking to the city about a field. They are playing their cards super tight to the chest from the sounds of it, but there is also a bit of talk going on with the CSA apparently. "So, federal money went to pay for nearly half of BMO Field’s construction, yet the national soccer teams, which are, when you get down to the nitty gritty, federal government departments, still pay rent to use the stadium. " Does this fly in the face of FIFA's Insistance for None-governmental interference? I'm saying that as luking in the near future is a UK parlimentary debate on the Governence of the FA. going down the slightly tangental path...I hope the CSI doesn't start chipping in and start asking for a running track (not that all national sporting institutes don't try it the world over- Why do you think Wembly was so expensive. So much time and effort was spent bouncing the running track out of the initial designs.)
jamonty
There are already running tracks in Edm as a legacy of the IAAF 2001 world championship in Athletics (track and field). The "other" Foote Field, Scona HS and even Commonwealth have track & field capabilities. I can't foresee that being an issue. If anything, an argument may come from other minor-pro/junior sports teams and their ability to "get-in" on a new facility. I'm thinking specifically of Huskies and Wildcats junior throwing ball, High School throwing ball, NAIT soccer, teams in the Alberta Major Soccer League, outdoor lacrosse teams, rugby, etc... jedinathan
So more interesting developments from this line of articles... Lodeweges and Schrijver have been fired from JEF. Lam is looking more and more likely to return to Edmonton. It'd be nice to see Matt back in Canada, and potentially getting more of a look for a nation cap, instead of warming a bench in Japan.
