Stop ****ing playing Dunfield. Stop playing the ball 25 feet in the air. Score some goals if you want a crowd to come.

It's not all that bad, PR were playing for a draw most of the night, crowding the box and bunkering. We generated chances, which was good, and our starting striker had to leave. We lacked a bit of depth up front without Hume on the pitch, and it looked clear that Jackson was a bit spent from the effort in St.Lucia. We're still dominating the group, and we're still going to move on to the next round, hopefully with a friendly between then and now. The boys looked sharp tonight, it just didn't quite come together.

Good for PR for playing to be eliminated.

If this was facebook I would like this comment.

PR should get more credit for being hard to break down, good for them. But at the end of the day, this game highlights our lack of creativity. We have decent attacking players but only simpson and dero are daring enough and we need more than those two

Well judging from your comments above you did not watch the same game anyone else did.

Really? What was it that I said that was so inaccurate? Puerto Rico weren't bunkering? We didn't have injuries? Jackson didn't look tired out?

It was an off-day. Yes we need to get these things under control, and we need Hutchinson and McKenna back. Is it the end of the world? No.

Does it mean we haven't a hope of qualifying? No.

That said, please resume your chicken-little act.

Hoilett better make up his mind soon or I will go to England and throw a Canada kit at him.

I'm not buying the idea that because PR sat behind the ball that "it just wasn't our night". For crying out loud, it's Puerto Rico! You think they're gonna be the last team to come up here and bunker down?? St. Lucia played completely into our hands with high line at the back and PR obviously figured that they would stay compact in the final third and shield the front three out. That meant we needed to draw them out earlier and create overloads on the wings, which we rarely did. I agree that Hutchinson linking the mid and the attack would have gone a long, long way tonight but a nil - nil draw at home with Puerto Rico after we beat them in their park is a disappointment. Period.

What would you do if the team you are playing is busy eliminating itself on the field by standing on the 18 yard line?

Let them.

I think last night is an indication of something we don't get to see Canada do often. Be in a position where they can sit back, be conservative and not get any cards or injuries and do this against a team that is bunkering.

I think we are confusing a conscious tactical choice vs being terrible.... and no I am not saying we can just flip on the Spain switch or whatever. We are still who we are.....as someone else said.

^That's not the case according to Hart after the game. He said PR played for their one chance -which Lars saved in the last 5 mins. Other than that - we attacked 9 men at the 18. Our mistake (according to him) was not throwing more balls in from the flanks. We continually tried hacking it up the middle ineffectively even when told to stop.

we really need Atiba back, and we could have used Will Johnson. dunfield really bothered me last night. He slows the game down and was making poor decisions. Why are we starting him when he cant even start for TFC

Because Torsten Frings doesn't play for Canada. ;)

Canada shouldn't be going into games against on-paper-hugely-inferior competition saying "let's let them eliminate themselves". We shouldn't be mocking the third-best team in the group, we should be getting a win and making damned sure we have nothing to worry about from the second-best team in the group.

Perhaps I overstated it a bit.

I am not saying the completely pulled the plug or anything, or should have.

No two ways about that performance - it was brutal! The result was crap and there was absolutely no entertainment value in it. They never forced the issue - it was always, slow down, calm down, pass back, let them setup. I'm not sure but I think I would peg the lion's share of the blame on JDG, Dunfield, and Hart. Wowch.

although we did try attacking up the middle a lot, with no effect, we did cross a lot of balls in from the flanks ... unfortunately, most of them sailed over the box or into the keeper's hands, with very little opportunity to finish ... it was a frustrating game to see

the PR shot from the left side of the box was the best chance of the game

I had to PVR the game but didn't miss much. I still think we need a Roberto Carlos type player to loosen up bunkers. Ali Gerba is out injured and he is about the closest we have. If the other team is bunkering with 11 men behind the ball and 10 of them in the 18 yard box you setup your rocket man to blast a few pieces of the bunker. Sure try to get the shot on net but the real objective is to scare the members of the bunker. After a few blasts from point blank range and they will turn to try and block it with their ass. Then you can try something. It is a very simple strategy.

We were back to our old "unable to break down tight defenses" selves again last night. That really needs to be addressed. The only good news is that PR are the only real worry for us in this group and we are done with them and have 4 out of 6 points to show for it.

Keep in mind the goal is first place in the group. That is all for now. One step at a time and hopefully Hart is planning for this next round because you know we will face bunkering but with much higher level players executing it against us.

We are unable to create space to find a shooting opportunity. The fact you have probably the most powerfull shot in Canada on the field wouldn't have changed a thing yesterday. I don't remember an occasion where I felt one of our player decided to pass or dribble when he had a shooting opportunity.
