With SMU's hammering of UPEI (6-0), that gives us 7 of the 8 teams now:

Victoria (Host)

Cape Breton (AUS season champs)

SMU (AUS playoff champs)

Montreal (RSEQ champs)

McGill (RSEQ silver)

Toronto (OUA 1/2)

McMaster (OUA 1/2)

And either UBC or Alberta. That game kicks off at 5:15pm ET

AUS Final

UPEI 0-6 Saint Mary's

4 goals by Elvir Gigolaj, 1 goal by each of Derek Gaudet and Ian Coke.

RSEQ Final

Montreal 3-2 McGill

22' - Montreal goal - Sylvain Willot

25' - Montreal goal - Alhassane Fox

39' - McGill goal - Alexander Trotsky

57' - Montreal goal - Jordan Derrien

73' - McGill goal - Alexander Trotsky

OUA Third Place

Carleton 0-2 York

17' - York goal - Carlos Noguiera

45'+ - York goal (PK) - Luigi Oliverio

This game felt like a friendly to me. Many regulars were rested. Last year, when a CIS berth was on the line, it was very thrilling, perhaps even the best match of the Final Four.

OUA Final

Toronto 1-3 McMaster

20' - McMaster goal - Paterson Farrell

59' - McMaster goal - Brandon Gutierrez

68' - Toronto goal - Mario Kovacevic

~90' - McMaster goal - Paterson Farrell

This game I don't feel like talking about right now. :(

Canada West Third Place

Victoria 1-0 Trinity Western

45' - Victoria goal - Craig Gorman

Canada West Final

After 30 minutes: Alberta 0-0 UBC

Webcast at http://www.canadawest.tv. The winner qualifies for the CIS Championships.

A dramatic ending:

Alberta 1-0 UBC

90' - Alberta goal - Marcus Johnstone

A long pass from the centre circle found Johnstone at the top left corner of the box, he carried it along the left edge of the box halfway to the goal line, then got just enough space on his marker to drill a bad-angle shot over the keeper. Alberta qualifies for the CIS Championship. So both of last year's finalists are out.

I've put together a complete summary of the OUA weekend this morning, including highlight videos galore from the women's final four (all done by Laurier's Athletics department, kudos to them!):

http://supportlocalsoccer.blogspot.com/2011/11/weekend-roundup-nov-56-oua-final-fours.html

I'm planning on doing CIS previews in the next couple of days, which'll be fun and interesting, since I know almost nothing about non-OUA teams! Time to learn!

Good preview -- I agree that the men's is very tight. The women's should have a few games that are a bit more open, but there are some games there that are just impossible to call.

One note I'd like to make about the video though, I found the sound mix a bit off. The music was a bit louder than it perhaps needed to be, and your voice was lost in the mix a few times in there. I had to "rewind" the video and turn it up a couple of times to hear what you'd said.

Thanks sulfur.

On the audio issue, we are trying to get that fixed.

Cheers

So, over the last couple of days I've fielded a bunch of questions as to how the hell the seedings work for the CIS Championships. I spent a bunch of time reading the policies and playing with a whiteboard, and I'm pretty sure I've sussed it out now. It's a bit complicated, but if the CIS office can figure it out, I certainly can too! Right?

Well, maybe.

I think that I got it though:

Game three was an interesting one. McMaster took the lead early in the second half over Cape Breton 1-0, but Cape Breton tied it up with a bit over ten minutes to play. Extra time... and McMaster dominated. Which meant that it was obvious that Cape Breton would score the winning goal with just under two minutes on the clock. 2-1.

Both AUS teams advance, both OUA teams into the consolations. One more game to go, Victoria v Montreal. That kicks off in about 5 minutes.

I was just tuning in to the first consolation semifinal (Toronto vs. McGill) and got this message:

"Due to inclement weather we are unable to bring you a live stream from the alternate field, but we are recording and will post the game later today."

:(

Of course, when they post games for on-demand viewing, they also spoil the results.

theweathernetwork.com says it's 9C and raining lightly in Victoria.

So, the men's final is set.

SMU and Alberta went to extra time 0-0 and SMU tallied twice in extra time to get the 2-0 win.

In the other game, UVic went up 2-0 very early but let CBU back into the game. UVic scored the winner with about 10 left to win 3-2.

Final: SMU v UVic

I'd say that UVic has a bit of an edge due to the whole home advantage thing, but SMU's been playing the underdog card for five games in a row now and coming up huge each time...

Bronze game: Alberta v CBU

Fifth place: McMaster v McGill

I'll take Saint Mary's to win. They've been oh so close so many times. This is it. (I know because I was on the field for them when they lost to U of A in the 2003 final in Montreal) Elvir Gigolaj has been the best player in the country in the last two weeks and former Portland Timber/national team stand out Derek Guadet hasn't even upped his game yet.

The good thing about the 4 hour time difference is that I can watch the Lonney Bowl at 1pm AT then the CIS Championship at 6pm AT followed by les Aigles/Huskies on ice.

Good day to be an AUS sports fan.............is this what it's like to be an NFL fan.........spend the day on the coach...........

Very nice way to spend a day. I get to run out and deliver some tickets for the Canada game on Tuesday before watching the Gaels and Gee-Gees in an hour. Eek. Still need to shower too. *sigh*

Anyhow, men's consolation SFs and semi-final writeups, along with links to the highlight videos done by the Vikes:
