phil7777
Sources at RDS confirmed that Jesse Marsh had discussions with frenchman Nicolas Anelka (PSG, Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester City, Real Madrid, Chelsea and 69 selections for France). His contract ties him to Chelsea until June 2012, but Chelsea GM said to be ready to let him go earlier. This would be huge... Comments?

Keano
This is getting messy, this is already discussed in another thread plus there are Impact MLS discussions in the MLS section... When will it all be in one place? Anelka is a disliked player in general but obviously the pedigree can't be argued with at the MLS level provided his personality doesn't create too many problems with his teammates... that's the one worrying thing about the Chimbonda rumors as well. However Marsch doesn't strike me as the type who would back down in an ego-war, or give a difficult personality the run of the team.
phil7777
Agreed. IMFC should be moved to MLS now, they are not in NASL playoffs and are officially in MLS mode.
ThiKu
Anelka, if willing to be humble and put in a good shift would be as formidable as Henry has been or as Keane is appearing to be. If not....can you say Ljungberg?

If not....can you say Ljungberg? I agree with this. Anelka has had motivation issues while at the peak of his career. That's a bad sign for someone hoping to make one last paycheck at the end of his career.
McGuire
Anelka has never been one of my favourite players, too much of a cancer in the dressing room IMO, but if he keeps his $#it together doesn't poison the atmosphere of the team then he'd be a great addition for the Impact & for the league if not gawd help us... maccaliam
I've recently heard that Anelka has converted to Islam, and this has supposedly mellowed him out making him a much better teammate and much easier to get along with.
Razcle
^ Yah. I heard something on the radio about that. My take; I am not a fan of Anelka, but the man knows how to put the ball in the back of the net and that is something you cannot teach in our league. He would be a great signing for IMFC and would add to the arsenal of dislike for TFC fans. I hope this happens and he brings his A game.
Keano
I read something last night (apologies I can't remember where as I was slightly inebriated) saying that Anelka and the Impact had been a few million $ apart and a formal offer had not been made. Major grain of salt necessary here since I can't find where I read that or whether it was journalistic or just fan rumors.
pappinchris
If Gerba can get fit (physically/mentally) and have Anelka to his side that's not a bad little strike force... Despite not being a huge fan of Anelka he in theory should be able to tear up MLS pretty well. Hopefully his buddy Henry has already warned him that he can't be lazy in MLS. That's right, I've read the same and I'm guessing they tried but he cost too much. I've read on the 12e joueurs' twitter that apparently Jesse Marsh & cie are going on a 10-day trip to south america soon. I'd rather for them to stay in Europe, but I'm curious to know why... I realize many Impact supporters would lke French players. However, look at what South Americans have done for Seattle, Portland, Salt Lake. These teams have been able to find very skilled affordable talent there. I believe the better deal lies in South America rather than Europe. Marsch is a rookie manager with no real playing resume while Anelka is... Anelka. I like Marsch's character, but I think it'd be a challenge to trying to control Anelka. Trident
just cause we're montreal doesn't mean all we want is french players, guys... -___- just because Vancouver is Vancouver does that mean all they wanted and looked for were boring players with no personality? just because Toronto is Toronto does that mean all they wanted and looked for were british and american? I agree with Trident, I also don't think French players are a priority. The hiring of the staff proves it. Anelka would be great because he has talent, not because he speaks French.
