Why I love MLS

Do we get to see the most talented players in the world?*

No.

Do we get to see the best teams in the world?

No.

What we DO get to see is football played with a North American spin.*

Any of you who watch Premier League, La Liga or to a lesser degree UEFA know that what would often constitute a yellow card in Europe will result in only a free kick in MLS, and an MLS yellow usually has to be 'EARNED' and would almost definitely be a red in Europe.

Fans from cities like Toronto, Chicago, NYC, Boston etc will simply not accept their players taking dives, we would tar and feather them and run them out on a rail (Boston Tradition)*

We are used to Hockey and NFL, we don't put up with pansies here and we like it a little rough.*

The game moves faster and we back our boys because we know if you are down for more than a minute you likely need a stretcher! (and some boys still won't take one)

Europe can keep their pansy players, Barcelona may own TFC on the pitch any day of the week but put them in a dark alley together and the Reds will be the only ones walking out of there.

Lattes.*

I'd say it's closer to the other way around... MLS refs are AWFUL, refs in the Premier League are world class. I have seen ridiculous yellows and reds given more than any of the leagues you mentioned.

Bad calls or mistakes are one thing but the gereral tolerance for physical play is another thing.

MLS is generally viewed as a pretty physical league. It has to have become that way if the refs tolerate or have more leaniency towards agressive tackles. We dont see all that many sending offs in MLS.

You cant really apreciate the contrast when you look at Concacaf Champions League whereby you get those whistle happy refs from central america.

No. Players from all of those teams have and continue to take part in play acting. Every club has at least one diver.

You have never watched a Premier League or Bundesliga match.

No, just...no.

Yeah, both those leagues are also fast. However, all the Bundesliga teams actually have some skill behind that speed unlike all the clubs in the prem minus the big ones. ;)

I don't mean 'fast' as in the speed at which the ball moves up and down the field, I mean we get on with the game quicker.

I have watched literally HUNDREDS of Premier League and UEFA games. (Admittedly I don't watch German teams outside of UEFA)

As for quality of referees, that is another thing, but they do have more tolerance for physical play.

I wouldn't say the refs here are more tolerant of physical play they are just clueless for the most part. There are some good ones but you get a real wide range of everything from "card happy clowns" to "let the boys play until someone gets seriously hurt" and you never know what you will get from week to week.

Afraid to call fouls in the box one week and giving out PKs for dives the next. The inconsistency of USSF/CSA officiating is the real problem. The MLS has a lot more teams and the number of quality officials to call the matches has not kept pace.

IT IS NOT MLS REFS. It is USSF/CSA refs. The MLS has no say in it unfortunately.

I agree but this is bias because I just watched some Concacaf Champs League yesterday. I was sick to my stomach watching the blatant diving and time wasting. I have to admit I follow MLS more than other league in the world across any sport now and I've grown to love it. Yes the quality isn't amazing but I can see it in person week in and week out.
